Who Stores Their Rig Indoors Over the Winter?

OK, so the not so nice weather is here for much of us and our fiver has been in indoor storage for almost 2 months now :(. As much as we hate not having it with us it is comforting knowing it is dry and clean indoors. We live in the very wet West coast that is not kind to an RV sitting outside in the elements. Unfortunately we do not have enough property to have a shop so we are forced to pay to have it inside a former chicken barn on an agricultural property about a 20 minute drive from our home.

When we started RVing over 20 years ago we always left our units outside and dealt with moldy awnings, extremely grime, black streaks, etc. in the spring and then we finally had a Terry fifth wheel that developed a leak. Friends of ours convinced us to store indoors for the late fall/winter/early spring months and we have been doing so since. It is great to put the rig indoors and pick it up 6 months later completely clean, dry, and looking exactly as it was when we put it away.

So what are others doing?
2013 Ram 3500 Megacab DRW Laramie 4x4, 6.7L Cummins, G56, 3.73, Maximum Steel, black lthr, B&W RVK3670 hitch, Retrax, Linex, and a bunch of options incl. cargo camera

I store mine inside a shed on the farm site where I live, year around. (Except when I am using it of course.)

I built a 76' x 50' Pole Barn just to house my 5th Wheel when I am not using it.

We just had this built over the weekend. Thought it would be a good investment for our older RV's. (Sorry for the unclear picture)

I incorrectly stated that I store my rv indoors during the winter! That is misleading, it is stored indoors (a pole barn)....when we are not using it in the โ€œwinterโ€!

we just bought a 40x18 steel car port, closed on one side and the back up next to the shop on the other side. we live on the central Oregon coast so we get a lot of wet weather and its hard on travel trailers.

Kept it home, outside and covered for a few years but indoors for many years now in a former student's family pole barn, on concrete. Nice to know it's dry and safe. For $50 a month, well worth it.

blofgren, INDOORS!!! An RV is a big expense, my โ€œmoney treeโ€ died in a drought many years ago. So, we want to take care of our investment. We have an advantage, in that, we can have storage here at home. In fact, with the slow accumulation of boats, atvโ€™s, rvโ€™s, and equipment....we just put in our second pole barn. Living out where some folks โ€œboondockโ€ has itโ€™s advantages! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Because of my city property and no room (or city allowable) storage options I have to pay to store mine year around. I choose to spend a little more duirng our Michigan winters to keep the rig inside and to me it's well worth it.
Echoing others, the rv is going on 18 years old and other than the styling giving away it's age you would never know it.

Hopefully the day is very near that I will be using it 12 months of the year ๐Ÿ˜„

We have been able to store our 5th wheel inside one structure or another for the last 15 years or so. Here is our current building.

Our travel trailer is stored in a 12 ft high shop attached to our home. The shop even has a 30 amp outlet and a sewer dump fitting. This allows us to use the trailer for extra living space even in winter when we have guests.

I inherited a trailer out in southern NM that was my grandparents. It's been stored under a shelter similar to the one blownstang built since 1991, still in beautiful condition. A roof of some sort is extremely helpful in keeping these toys looking good. 3 years ago we built a 40X44 building and it's fantastic to have ours indoors. So spoiled I don't even need to winterize it!

These RVs are built to go outside, not necessarily LIVE outside! A shelter will pay for itself if you plan to RV for any length of time.
