Why I'm glad I own an RV - Dirty Hotel Rooms

I read this article this morning about how dirty hotel rooms are. I'm really thankful that we rarely use a hotel and have our RV to rely on.

We went up to the WY mountains for so ATVing. Wife wanted to stay at the local lodge instead of taking the RV. We checked into cabin we rented for two days. I was looking around and it was pretty nice. But I noticed the beds were a little mussed. Then I saw there was a used condom on the night stand!!! Went to the office and they completely cleaned the cabin and and changed all the linen and towels. Boy, they were embarrassed and we got the lodging for free for two nights.

last hotel for us was like 18 years ago? or in that range 🙂

I truly hope I can bypass hotels the rest of my life. but a few trips in the future I might just have to concede but worry about it then. RV all the way!

When I was still working for a living, I traveled for the company and stayed in nice (expensive) hotels. In some of them, I had to wear shoes so that my socks wouldn't stick to the carpet. Between that and dealing with last night's top sheet becoming the next night's bottom sheet with a clean top sheet, I swore that I'd never stay in a hotel again. And I haven't. I know exactly who slept in my bed last night.

We DO use hotels, but I check the mattress for bugs; and I carry an ultraviolet light, just in case.....

We have HAD to use motel/hotels due to situations that come up.
We do not go bear footed nor do we use the bedspread -----it gets thrown over in corner.

Motel/hotel rooms are just nasty regardless of the paper strip across toilet etc.

Many organic based cleansers also floresce under black light. That property is not limited to human bodily fluids.

In my previous life,I processed crime scenes for evidence. If you ever took a forensic light to a hotel room you would be disgusted at where you see bodily fluids.

I do hotels if needed but I sure love my RV more.

What I don't like about hotels is your 'limits'. In my RV I can move and stop and still have my home with me 🙂 I can cook easily. I can come and go easily without having to maybe use an elevator from the 8th floor, I can bring alot of my toys like bikes, golf cart, kayak and all.

Just the sheer love of RV and my personal home trumps a hotel every single time but yea, hotel rooms can be 'nasty' to no end...heck just watch an episode of 'Hotel Impossible' on tv and the ICK is out there for sure!

I am planning a 2 week trip out to Yellowstone, Tetons and Rocky Mtn NP, with stops along the way and my approx figure is around $3500! This is for 2017.

I have no reason or need to leave this country for a vacation but my wife would like to go somewhere, so I am going with it for her. Not to mention I don't like to fly. Between the danger of crashing and the shtuff to deal with at the airport....no thanks!

I'll take the RV, TT any day over anywhere else! I can have any view I want anywhere I want. For a lot less than an overseas trip! Place in the woods, house on the lake, cabin on a creek, anything!

Since purchasing the RV, I really dislike staying in a hotel. When I was traveling for work a lot, I stayed in a very high end hotel. I woke up one morning covered with hundreds of baby ticks - I was their first meal. I made it through that day but when I got back home that night, I had an allergic reaction and ended up in the hospital. I agree you have better odds in nice hotels, but bad things sometimes happen in really expensive hotels.

I love RVing and it is my preferred way of traveling with my family, unfortunately my job requires quite a bit if travel, many times at a moment's notice particularly when issues halt or impede production.

For the most part the hotels I book are pretty nice since our clients are footing the bill and all incurred expenses, you get what you pay for really rings true in terms of travel accommodations.

Most of our bad experiences with hotels were due to trying to save a few bucks when traveling with the kids back in the day, staying at economy hotels to keep within travel budget led to less than desirable accommodations at times.

Now with the kids grown we travel with a different sense of style both when RVing or utilizing hotels. Bedbugs among other issues stated in linked article are good reasons to travel exclusively by RV, but we will continue to enjoy finer hotels from time to time.

There are germs everywhere we go folks, from work, stores, public restrooms, restaurants, church, and even the good ole doctor's office, we are under continual bombardment. Such is life as we know it.

We have been re-evaluating our options. It seems like every park and wilderness area we camped in was full of bugs, creatures, and sand and dirt. And don't get me started on the stinky dump stations with the only thing standing between civilization and biohazard is a thin plastic tube. 🙂

For those of you who have stayed in hotels/motels for years w/no problems, times are changing. As the world gets smaller with more travelers, bedbugs are becoming more widespread. I have friends who spent over 4k getting their house rid of bedbugs they picked up in a nice motel in Moab.
