Batteries for adult toy.

I've set up my boat for 2 batteries, one for starting and one for running the anchor light and radio when not underway. Since you are battery geniuses I thought I ask for opinions.

It's time for new batteries so I'm wondering what would be better overall. Two starting/cranking batteries, using the second for the light/radio or 1 starting/cranking and 1 deep cycle rv/marine?

The idea for the backup battery was to be sure I could start the boat after extended light/radio use. So that makes me lean toward the backup actually being another cranking/starting battery.

Thoughts?

I thought I'd already posted this but that dang Reset bug was working over time this AM.. My first thought at reading the subject line was "AA Batteries".
I will say no more.

Half expected someone boon docking 200 miles from civilization and needing to hot wire a toy into the 12v system.

So I told my wife about this thread.
I also explained that not being an RVer, I assumed an "adult toy" must be some sort of RV.

My mistake was when I told her I'd Google " batteries for adult toy " - Wow!

I ran a pair of group 27 "Marine Deep Cycle" batteries using a manual battery switch. 1, 2, , BOTH and OFF. Battery one was the engine battery, 2 for all the 12V loads (power anchor windlass on the Chriscraft).
This is my setup. Once under way after using Batt 2 I switch to BOTH to give Batt 2 a charge.

They can put all the warnings they want on labels... Your average boater goes to West Marine, buys a battery and hooks it to their motor. I doubt many if any bother with a precision temperature compensated charger.

All that label does is protect them from warranty claims from owners who admit they used the wrong charger.

How many boat motors have a temperature compensated alternator output anyway?

Why ask me? - ask East Penn :R ... and while you're at also ask why a temp comp warning is not also listed on their flooded line, since you're so "precise". :W

the point is temp comp for long life, this prevents over and under charging.
under charging leads to sulfate, under charging leads to additional battery maintenance. Flooded require it also for optimal life. Solar provides this easily. lead acid is lead acid

so just how un optimal is battery life of Deka's AGM if charge with a smart charger set to their recommendation without temp comp? precision please!

suggesting flooded makers don't recommend temp comp is nonsense
