Not sure what the rating is for my truck. I have a Jayco Eagle HT fifth whell that weighs approximately 7200 pounds. Could my truck pull up to #13000 using a fifth wheel. I have read somewhere #10200 but I am not sure if that is just bumper pull. Thanks

A few more details would help, but if you don't have the build sheet, you can check your glove box sticker for the rear end ID code. My 2500 has the 4.10 gear. I've pulled weights up to around 8500lbs so far, from campers to SUVs to skid steers and I haven't noticed the motor working much harder at all.

That HT you are looking at only has a total weight capacity of 9,950 pounds fully loaded. Are you planning on getting another, larger one?

It will tow that trailer no problem. Should be able to keep the speed limit in most circumstances you will ever encounter. It might run higher rpm 4000+ rpm to do it.

It would tow it just fine according to my expectations. I can't speak to your expectations.

You should be fine towing any of the Jayco HT 5ers, they are designed to be towed by current half-ton trucks and have GVWRs of under 10K. If you have the 4:10 gears you are definitely set. It won't tow like a diesel, but it doesn't have to for Jayco's HT 5er line-up. Amazing amount of space in a 5er that is so lightweight, here's hoping you have many great RVing experiences and your new rig exceeds all your expectations.

I have a 2013 2500HD with the 6.0 gas engine. I would agree that it has more payload than power. It will make good power at 4,000 rpm's or above, but it gets really thirsty in that range. Drives good, tows good, hauls a truck camper with ease.

GM tow ratings for 2011+ 2500HDs vary a lot. From about 9500 pounds to over 14k pounds. 4.10 axle makes a big jump, much more than the 10% gearing difference compared to GCWR difference of 16k to 20k. So check your RPO sticker in glove box to confirm GT4 or GT5 for 3.73 or 4.10 axle.

9000 pounds for a 5er should be just fine for either. Use tow haul mode, and M5. Expect some downshifts to 4th or 3rd gears on the hills. Let that engine as peak torque is in the 4200rpm range. My 6.0L wakes up over 3000rpm and pulsl hard to over 5500rpm.

A buddy of mine has the same truck and roughly the same weight and HATES it. Flat roads are fine but it's a dog going up any hills. He has the 3.73 so the 4.10 axle should help a bit.

I wouldn't be so worried about the weight as the truck is setup to easily handle it from a braking and overall load standpoint. That 6.0 engine is just a bit underpowered.

I have a 2009 model & it will do the job. Hard to image you loading 5800# of stuff & maxing out.

What axle ratio? 3.73 or 4.10?

Looks like around
10k for 3.73 and 14k for 4.10,
at least for the 2014s. I think they are mechanically identical to the 2013s.

The GCWR goes from 16000 for 3.73 to 20500 for 4.10 :E
