2016 F350 with the Power Stroke

We just picked up a 2016 Race Red, supercab for way more money than our house cost in 1971. Still have to get the Torklift tie downs, and we will be good to go. Can't go wrong with a Ford SD. We had great luck with our 2000, also diesel, but regular cab and now 175,000 miles. Very surprised that this truck came with Michelins. Haven't had Michelins in I betcha 30 years. Looking forward to a short trip to northern Michigan at the end of June, then in August to Bristol for the Nascar race, then out to California.

do yourself a favor, since you scaled the truck and camper make sure the weight on the rear axle does not exceed the rating of the rear tires or rims. I have been through a rear blow out loaded and it was not fun. I was right at the tire weight rating. I upgraded to 19.5s rated at 4500# after that.

OK now I am on a roll. Thought I would show the back porch that my husband constructed a few years ago. It started as a cargo holder that fits in the Reese hitch, he then built up the frame to the second level. There is a step on the curb side to get on, there is a portable step in the cubby near the license plate that we can put under the camper door when we are stopped. That way we can still access the storage under that door (used to be for the steps that we now don't need). The whole thing is stabilized with chains & turnbuckles on both sides that hook onto the tailgate connectors. Then he stuck a bike rack on the back. Works great. Our leveling boards are 3/4" plywood, about 8" x 20-24", since this is 8' camper, we can slide them in on edge on the truck bed beside the camper, then lay them flat and they stay in because of the L shape where the box comes around the back.

Thanks-that is Peppi. She is 6 years old, and is a semi-retired Canine Advocate for St. Joseph County, Michigan. She went with me to work almost daily while I was the Victim Advocate for our county and spent time with our witnesses, sometimes when they testified in court. I retired in February, and Peppi is still "on call" if needed. Otherwise, she is going with us.

After only 10 months I think I may have posted a picture of our new truck (now 10 months old).

It worked!!

I also have an 86 Mercedes diesel sedan and buy Rotella T6 5W40 by the 2.5 gallon jug at Walmart. On my '96 F350 7.3 PSD I would use nothing else, and go about 7500 miles between changes. I also use Power Service Diesel Kleen additive with every single tank (two on my truck!) and I get an extra 2 MPG when loaded.

I have done that as well. Filters too. I have a Ram now and am using 15w-40 Rotella T5 semi syn. I may switch to T6 5w-40 for these brutal Houston winters. I've seen it down to 55 degrees overnight in my garage. lol
The main theme of my first post was do not assume the Ford dealer has any idea what they are doing.

I have a 2011 F-250 Super Duty and use 10W-30 semi-synthetic T5 Rotella, 10W-30 was recommended for "severe duty" in my owners manual. Mileage is actually better with this particular oil.

Not sure about the new models, but on my 2013 F350 diesel the owners manual recommended 5w-40 synthetic oil if the truck was in severe duty...defined as towing. My local small town dealer didn't have a clue and was going to put 10-30 conventional oil in mine. They didn't have any 5w-40 syn in stock. The Motorcraft synthetic that I found at auto parts store was expensive. I used Shell Rotella T6 5w-40 synthetic with satisfactory results.
If you're in Michigan you may want that 5w-40 viscosity for winter time anyway.

Truck and camper worked very well on first trip last weekend. Except, that we decided to weigh it and we are 400 over on the back axle, and 900 pounds over on GVW! However, truck handles just fine, tires stay cool, husband is very happy with it. Got about 14.5 mpg in our 500 mile trip. Sold our 2000 F350 to a family friend. He didn't even want to test drive it, he just WANTED it. So it went to a good home.

Thanks everyone. I can't believe how quiet it is. And so quiet inside too. Can hardly wait to get the camper on it. We are selling the 2000, but keeping the 88 F250 with almost 300,000 on it now--good for going to the auctions I guess. The 2000 made it to Alaska twice, and we plan to go again next year. Just a tiny problem with 2000 F350 last year near Vail, CO, when the electronic part that delivers fuel decided to quit working, just like that. Had to be pulled on a chain for 10 miles to Gypsum. Got fixed by the greatest repair shop, Werks Auto. Had to stay overnight, camped in their lot, got THE best treatment, and here we are from Michigan, no less. We paid about what our own mechanic would have charged, in fact he thought we got it done cheaper than he could. Always an adventure.
