2017 F-150 3.5 Ecoboost

Looking at a new 2017 or a new 2016. The 2017 has the 10 speed and the Ecoboost has more power and torque. However, the 2017 has the start stop standard which will likely be annoying?

Any other major differences?

The max tow versus regular tow package has effectively no material differences. Either way payload will be limited.

Anyone have a new 2017 F150 with the 3.5 Ecoboost?

Is this an option or only on the higher trim levels, or what? I have a 2016 F-150 XLT 3.5 4x4 and the engine doesn't shut off at stoplights.

It may be fine in normal city driving, but crossing a highway not so much!

It's really not an issue. I rented a Malibu with that feature and didn't even realize it until I looked at the tach at a stoplight. The instant you take your foot off the brake it starts and there is no delay or lag in acceleration.

Well I will disagree with that! Currently renting an Opal diesel manual here in Ireland and most annoying feature I have seen.
I don't sit at a light with the clutch depressed, so release clutch and engine "shuts off" starts when clutch is depressed, and really not ready when I have transmission in gear and releasing again! :M

Yes, I do understand the concept and reason, I see a wrongful lawsuit in some car makers future because of this feature.
We have already seen deaths due to people not turning off their engines when parking in the garage!

Our last car had the stop/start feature and it wasn't annoying at all.
In fact after having one that does it, every other car seems crude in comparison.

Test drove the F150 with the 2.7 engine and it took a few stops to get use to the start-stop feature. On that year you could just hit the tow haul switch and it was disabled and ran normally. Now that we have the hybrid car to tow behind the motorhome the start stop feature is not that weird feeling. The Ford system is fast and smooth operating. Have driven a proto type from a different builder and it had a thump type of feeling to it. Both had the new 10 speed auto in them. Both driven at a closed test site. Wish I could have hooked up a trailer and tried them out.

I already have turbo lag to consider when playing Frogger while attempting to cross a busy highway twice a day. This would add to my frustration.

Actually in the F150 the engine is off until you lift your foot off the brake pedal. There is also a time factor where the engine will start again even with your foot on the brake pedal if a certain amount of time lapses.

It is a relatively new feature. Think of a gas golf cart. The engine is off until you press the gas. That is the basic premise.

There's learning curve with the start stop system. Just give it time.

You can switch the start stop system off, But, it turns back on every time you cycle the ignition.

In 2015, I had a 3.5 EcoBoost and it was a great powertrain. You had to disable the 2.7 auto start/stop each ignition cycle (as I have to do to engage the exhaust brake on my truck now (grrr)).

Has that changed with the 2017 model year and its availability in the 3.5?

Ford has one of the smoothest start-stop systems out there. You probably won't really notice, and if it does bother you just disable it.

If you are concerned about payload, then order one with the Max Payload option.
