24-28' Bunkhouse... Any love/hate opinions??

We have a KZ SPREE 32' Bunkhouse (324BHS) and are pretty happy with it. A couple of the kids have moved out and now it's too big but we still have two kids left at home. We went to the RV show yesterday and were a bit overwhelmed with all the bunkhouse models in the mid 20' size range. If anyone wouldnt mind sharing their likes and dislikes it would be much appreciated. Cheers to all.

We've got a Jayco X213 which is 24' total length. It's got a king hard slide out bed at the rear and 2 decently wide bunks at the front. I'm claustrophobic so climbing into the top bunk freaks me out, but as long as I get my feet to the closed in end and my head to the open space quickly, I'm okay. The top bunk is tough to get into though. Both of my younger kids love the top bunk. The littlest is too young to sleep up there as she has the potential to fall out. The 8 year old though thinks it's an awesome space and it's very cozy for her to sleep.

We love the size as it fits in our driveway. So for the summer, it will stay home on the driveway and we can leave at a moments notice without having to pick it up out of storage. We can actually even extend the king bed if we need; it extends INTO our garage while the rest of the trailer is in the driveway. It's kind of a cool party trick. ๐Ÿ˜‰

We're a family of 5 so the extra space we get by being able to extend the bed is nice. The king bed is huge for width so our littlest sleeps with us now, but when she gets bored with that, it takes all of 5 seconds to flip the couch into a bed as it's a jackknife style.

I also like that the bathroom is straight ahead when you come in the door so the kids don't have to go through the entire trailer when they need to use the bathroom. I've always wanted a trailer that had outdoor access to the bathroom, but I preferred something shorter to be able to get more of the sites with trees rather than RV parking style, and to be able to keep it on the driveway. So the bathroom straight in the door is a decent compromise.

we have a springdale triple bunk... The kids sleep on the top bunks... Unless i have a third minion with us.. the bottom bunk is used as storage. When the kids are with their mom... We use the top bunks as storage.. The wife and I plan a 2-3week trip in the summer. (As i split the time with my ex. That way we can plan uninterrupted trips without carting kids back and forth weekly. ) it turns out great when we can load up and not have tp have a bunch of sheesh in the living space.

We will most likely have a bunkhouse until i retire. the space is so nice

I really am liking our Palomino Solaire 229BHS actual length 26' 1" tongue to back bumper. It has a very upscale feel with the eclipse package all LED lighting and Rhino lining material front end with option LED running lights.

We love our Jayco Jayflight 267bhs for two adults , two kids, and two dogs. It is a little cramped around the queen bed and tough to make with only access to the sides. To be honest, we aren't too concerned about it. We almost went with something smaller and easier to tow. We only sleep in it. We camp to be outside more.

If you downsize, be sure to go with a slide model. We did 7 seasons with the Jayco 27bh (now 26bh) and it was great. But, as the kids got older and we added a dog, there really wasn't enough room to comfortably hang out when needed. The good news is there are a million floor plans to choose from. If it were me, I would probably keep the rv and go with more tow vehicle. 8k should be easy to get something newer and more efficient.

I agree with others and just keep what you have. Your kids might want to bring friends along. When kids are gone get what Mom and Dad want. You will take a financial hit if you trade.

Personally, I'd be reluctant to downsize yet if you really like the TT you have. Ever new rig purchase is an opportunity for new problems at added costs.

We went the bunkhouse way for our grandkids and found they didn't go as often as we wished. Plus being retired, we disliked having to wait for them to get out of school before leaving.

If you currently have a slide in your rig - be sure to get one in any new rig you get. You won't like not having one.

We love the layout of our older 25' KZ Sportsmen. It has a seperate room in the front with double bunks and has plenty of storage in there for all the kids stuff.

We also have the KZ S242 with a slide out and double over double bunks. It seems very roomy and the kids have plenty of room with each having their own full size bunk. Travel length is 26'9" and I am able to find many campsites that this will fit in.

We had a Jayco 26BH, which had no slides. It was tough with 3 kids in the back (with a single bunk over a double bunk, so 2 kids had to share), and us in the front with 2 small dogs. In the morning all the kids wanted to come forward to eat, I wanted to go aft to use the bathroom, and my wife wanted to make coffee... so we went with something a little bigger. A slide out would have made a huge difference, but now we also like that each kid gets their own bed. We really love our outside kitchen too. We now have a Sprinter 311 BHS, which is a little big, but it works for us.

We've been in a 28' BH with no slides since 2000 - love it with or without kids. Like others who've replied to this post, we find that size range gives us a greater range of sites in most CGs. Our master bedroom is also separated by a curtain rather than a a wall/pocket doors. That, along with a 101" width and light colored interior decor give the unit an open feeling. Our kids are grown now (one is gone and one will be leaving in just over 4 months). We have always found uses for the empty bunks!!

I think the only change we'd make if we were to do it over again is to find a model that has the bunks open the entire length. It can we awkward for a nearly 6-foot teen to get in to one of the "cave" bunks!
