6 WAY ROUND TO 7 WAY BLADE PIGTAIL

I just got a new to me, 97 Dodge Ram 2500 to pull my 20' TT. Unfortunately the plug on the bumper is a 6 way round.

So what are my options :

Should I pull it off and install a new 7 blade plug ?

or

Use this 6 to 7 pigtail...

Since it is missing the "purple" wire does this mean that I will not have the reverse lights ?

Thanks

I would put a 7 way on the truck and forget it. an adapter is going to add 13 connections that introduce the possibility of 13 potential problems when you least expect them. 7Way connectors are pretty much standard.

Yes, you will NOT have back up light capability with a 6 pin connector. You will need to upgrade to a 7 pin connector to have back up lights.

Thanks for all the ideas, yes I do have have backup lights on the TT, they are nice and bright from LET Trailer.

It is a nice feature when backing up into campsites at night.

Am I correct in understanding that by simply using the pigtail from 6 round to 7 flat I will not be able to have the backup lights ?

I would change the truck to a 7 pin. I had trailers with 7, 6, and 4 pin plugs. I got tired of never having the right adapter when I needed it. I changed all the trailer plugs to 7 pin and now everything fits without adapters.

Do you have 'reverse lights' on your TT?
Is it time for your medication or mine?

On both my F350's, I installed all 3 of the most common style trailer connections: 7-way blade RV, 6-way round utility, and 4-way flat utility. I tow trailers using all 3 styles of connector, with both trucks. It's simpler for me to have all 3 styles on each truck, instead of using adapter harnesses. I also keep 2" and 2-5/16" hitch balls on ball mounts, in both trucks. 🙂

I would go with the 7-way BLADE connections since that is the standard for the RV TRAILER WORLD...

The 7-way and 4-way trailer connector and built-in brake controller handles all of my two RV trailer connections and utility trailer connections we use here with my 2010 F150 truck.

Either way is OK electrical wise as long as you know what you need to be using and what will be missing...

ETRAILER has you covered and are great folks to work with...

I would prefer to cut the 6 way off and have a 7 way. The adaptor will work fine. It's just two more connections in a critical system.

Thanks
