All my dash gauge lights, NAV and digital display went black

So... I'm coming back from a 10 day trip to the Oregon coast today, driving along happily...cruise set.. Freebird goin on the ole' Victrola.... And all my indicators go dark. The gauges are all still working, but they're all dark. NAV is black... that center digital display between the tach and speedo is black. Grrr...

So I turn the headlights off... then back on... nothing.

Play with the dimmer, all the way up and the cab light came on, and then I could just barely see some back light. Grrr.... What's going on???

So I continue down the road. Pull into a gas station to fuel up. I grab my trusty Seahawks hat from the dash....BOOM, all the lights come on.

My baseball cap had covered up the day/night sensor.
:S

That is too funny! 😄

I'm used to old trucks and simple operation of vehicles. If I had one of those fancy new trucks with all that gimmicky gadgetry, I'd probly be going through all sorts of moments just like that. I likely would have been in the fuse box looking for the burned out dash light fuse...

Me thinks we have a tad too much technology sometimes in our trucks..... 😛

I'm still a little dubious, because even if the hat covering the sensor caused the truck to automatically dim the dash lights, you should have been able to bring them up to full brightness with the dimmer control.

Maybe it's a Ford-knows-better-than-the-customer thing, but on my 2015 Chevy you can set the brightness of the dash and display anywhere from nothing to full brightness with the headlights on.

Putting 10-ply tires on half ton trucks since aught-four.

Hmmm......something doesn't sound right here....ballcap makes sensor think it has become dark outside so sensor turns dash lights off??.....umm no, sensor would have to think it has become light outside to turn off lights...[emoticon]

It dimmed the dash lights, which is what happens when it thinks it is night.

If only the ball cap would turn off that pesky Ford check engine light. 🙂
