Sounds like a decent outcome, all things considered; I'm sure the pump wasn't cheap but it could've been much worse.

Hope you get years & tens of thousands of miles of problem-free service from it.

You need to just go a dealer, or an independent shop with the proper 6.0 diagnostic equipment. If the shop starts suggesting swapping parts, tow it somewhere else. When the diagnostics is done the bad part is identified, be sure to ask about the cost of repairing any consequential damage (for example, a bad FICM can damage all of the injectors, which cost over $3,000 for the set) so you can decide up front if its worth fixing.

Especially the last sentence. How many miles do you have on it?

As stated in many post could be many things, if it turns out to be minor great. If it is a major issue, this may be as cost efferent as a 6.0 crate.

My dads 06 did that too. He had to coast to the side of the road and it wouldn't ever restart. Had it towed and they replaced the EGR valve. Modern vehicles are all so complicated though unfortunately it could be a million different things. Good luck

My '07 F350 6.0 suddenly shut down while towing the 5er on an interstate near OK City after having been running fine for about 3 hours. Engine would turn over strong, but would not restart. Had about 54,000 miles on it. Had it towed to Ford dealer. It was the cam sensor. Replaced under warranty. No other problems before or after that event.

Look at the voltage on the FICM (Fuel Injection Control Module) If that is good. Look to batteries and alternator.

Look here for more help.

Different truck.

Sorry for the snide comeback. But there have been so many reported issues with that motor it is any bodies guess how bad it is. Bad fuel, bad computer, head gasket blown.
The only way to know for sure is to have it towed to a Ford garage with a good diesel mechanic and let him have a go at it. While your at it, you might look at new trucks.
