Thanks to all for the complements. I'm looking forward to taking our first TC road trip in it. I have a fair amount of work to do first though. I'm still recovering from shoulder surgery I had back in January, so I may have to get some help with some of the "under the truck" work.
Jim (Boatycall), I noticed that you had a new truck a few weeks ago but I hadn't had a chance to congratulate you yet, so let me take the opportunity now to do so. That is one nice looking truck! No problem with it's "used" status as far as I'm concerned. You let the first owner take the depreciation hit. This is the first new vehicle I've bought in many years, and it was basically the local un-availability of F450's and the total lack of desire to deal with selling the old truck myself that pushed me in this direction. I'm sure you'll be happy with the new truck! :B
Tvov, I was using three of the upfitter switches in the old truck, and will probably do the same in the new one. One switch enabled "Battery Charge Protect" mode in the ECM. Basically, when this switch is on with the truck in "P" and the parking brake set, the ECM will manipulate the engine RPM's so that good battery voltage is maintained. Another switch was used to engage the continuous-duty solenoid in the heavy-duty charge circuit I had installed to keep the camper battery fully charged. The third switch was used to turn on some auxiliary driving lights on the front of the toolbox I sometimes carried on the front hitch.
Grit Dog, I hate to break it to you man, but I already have the truck scheduled to have woodgrain panels installed on the sides. I thought that was still in style! JK :W
Sherrifdoug you just made me feel better about the "deal" I made. Har!
zb39 and dave17352, the GVW of the 2016 is 14K. My 2010 F450 GVW is 14.5K. Why the difference? I don't know. To be honest, I don't know what the difference in payload is between the F350 and F450. The F450 rear axle (Dana S110) is not available on the F350, and the wide-track front axle is only available on the F350 if the right option is chosen. The Dana S110 has a GAWR up to 14,706 lbs but is de-rated in the F450 for safety and tire reasons. The wider front axle gives the F450's an awesome turning radius. What I do know is that I am hauling my ~5500 lb. TC on a 2010 F450, and the only suspension mod I made to it was these homemade stableloads. I may just buy Torklift's stableloads this time.
~DJ~, Thanks! Arf Arf! Grrrrr! :C
