Cleaning a power awning

Does anyone have any tips on cleaning a power awning other than getting on a ladder? It does not seem that I can tilt it down like you can with a manual type.

The way I did mine for the first time was to roll it all the way out, scrub a small section with a long handled brush, roll it up a little and repeat. After finishing, I rolled it back out to let it dry. Tedious but it worked. I think I still like the manual ones better, at least for cleaning purposes.

Based on a previous thread here I used a household pump spray shower cleaner. I lowered the extended awning and then used a step ladder to spray the top surface with the cleaner after first wetting it down with a hose. I then used a long handle brush to distribute the cleaner. I rolled the soapy awning back up and then rolled it back out and rinsed it off about a half an hour later. Worked great!!

Ours tilts down somewhat so what we do is tilt it as far down as it goes, hose it down, then use a long handled brush or car washing pad to give it a scrub with a mixture of laundry detergent and bleach. Then we roll it up wet without rinsing it. Let the bleach do it's thing for a bit - since it is all rolled up, it will not dry out, and the bleach water settles the same place the mildew is. After a bit, unroll, rinse and let dry. Usually comes out pretty good.

This works well

This is what we so...it does work well. A power washer helps as well, but not required.

I can only think of three ways.

1. Ladder
2. From the roof
3. Very long handled cleaning brush
