Couch replacement

I have a 2013 Coachmen Freedom Express 246RKS trailer. It has one slide which has the couch in it. This couch is very uncomfortable and we take long trips. Has anyone replaced this couch or have any suggestions as to where I could find a better couch that would fit in this area. The couch sits on a "shelf" and folds out like a futon ? so it does not have legs etc. Our last RV was a Discovery diesel pusher so we got a little spoiled for comfortable furniture. Also where is the best place to find a queen mattress to replace the one that came with this trailer ? Thanks in advance.

I've been toying with this idea. Cover a shelf (?) with carpeting. Get some foam ( like in seat cushions) cut to fit and make a daybed. I would still have my storage underneath. Of course lose a guest bed.sigh.

Some TT's incorporate the couch in the structure of the slide. If that's the case, then removing it will weaken the slide. Our couch was really uncomfortable and luckily was not part of the structure . We took it out and replaced it with two IKEA chairs. Way more comfortable now and lighter too.

I have a jack-knife sofa similar to yours in my 2003 Alumascape TT. I also would like to replace it with a more comfortable sofa or 2 recliners. The problem in my rig is that the sofa sits in the slide-out but the slide-out does not come all the way down to the floor. It stops about 12" from the floor. I believe this may be your problem also. Basically what I need is a couch with no legs or 2 recliners with 12" legs that I could remove. So far I have not been able to find this. In the meantime my wife has managed to install extra foam in the sofa. It is slightly more confortable but 2 recliners would be my dream. Dale

What size is the trailer it went into? Did it come apart to fit through the door?

Yes, the back comes off and it fits through the doorway easily. It's not real light as it's very well built. It's 65" wide.

The OP said that the couch is the slide, and it sits on a "shelf". The motor, etc. for the slide is under the couch. If the "shelf" is removed, all of the slide mechanism will be exposed.

My cousin and hubby were going to change their sofa for 2 recliners. They found 2 problems - one, getting them through the door. The old sofa, they could have dismantled, but the only chairs they could find with a lift off back were Lazy Boys and were pretty $$$ x 2. The second was that to do what they had in mind would have left holes in the flooring, so that would have required replacing to look nice. They decided to just live with it for a while longer, have sold it and will look into a new trailer in the spring.

Our new TT has a really quite comfortable sofa with a fold out bed with air mattress. I hadn't been a fan of air mattresses, but this one is very comfortable and has a built in pump - inflate in about 2 minutes or so and about the same to deflate. Don't know the measurements, but it's a FR Rockwood Ultra Lite and they could probably give you the supplier. It sits snugly between the dinette and outside wall in the slide. Have no idea if it's actually attached to the floor because we've never tried to pull it out, but it does have sorta donut shaped "feet".

Valid point about it possibly being a pass through - maybe an issue for you, maybe not.

If it's like my Coachmen Catalina, the slide mechanism is under the couch, so one with legs won't work. Also there is a place in Northern In. that sells mattress for $300. shipping included. With a little searching I might find it again.

I saw a post a few months ago about someone who bought modular furniture that he used to replace his couch. It looked cool so I checked out the website to inquire more. I don't rember the site and couldn't find the post,maybe you will have better luck.

What's really nice about it is the comfort and size. It's 65 inches wide and when folded out a 6 foot person can sleep stretch out quite easily.

Replaced ours with 2 light weight recliner type chairs and a small drink fridge (old weight for new similar weight)! Ours was also very uncomfortable, only the dog used it, and now we have nowhere for guests to sleep:) Win, win, win!

Generally when a couch "sits on a shelf" that means that there is storage underneath accessible from outside.

One couple we know had a slide which had a couch and dinette booth in that area, they took both out, sold both, and bought a recliner and a small table & 2 chairs in place of the couch & dinette.

It was surprising how much more spacious their TT looked ...
