all of my Ford F150 trucks have been the 5.4V8 with 3.73 gears... A great setup... TOLLS my 4000lb OFF-ROAD POPUP and still gets 19-20MPH. Have seen as high a 22MPH and as low as 18MPH.
Has lots of power...
My present truck is the 2010 model before the new V6 came out so don't have any experience with the new motors.

Ecoboost or 5.0L with 3.73. In the 15 years I have owned and followed F-150s, the engine and axle ratio does not significantly affect the fuel consumption the same driver gets for the same generation truck. Do you know what each driver notices? power when you want it. With the current trucks, 6th gear so so tall that holding 75mph unloaded up any small overpass causes downshift with 3.31 axle. Bah!

I have driven a few 3.7s and they are great if you dont mind some extra rpms. They dont come on as many configurations either.
Forgive my ignorance, but what's a "3.7s"?
The base 3.7 V6. Should have said 3.7's.
