7.5mpg is MUCH more realistic with a 38' fiver!

Fifth loaded to around 10K I get 8-8.5mpg. Never in the 7's yet and rarely in the low 9's. Empty around 14.5 highway, 11 around town. I drive with a light foot and this is the best I can do.

My wife's cousin has a 2000 F-250 V-10. He can usually get about 5mi out of 12oz. As far as how much gas his engine burns.......I don't think he can see straight enough to figure that out.

My 06 V10 30V 4.10RAR towing 13,000 5'r at 60 MPH got 5.75 to 11.75. Depending on terrain and wind. Average towing was 7.2 MPG. The 11.75 was downhill or level all day with a 50MPH tailwind. Headed east on I-40 in Oklahoma.

Not towing was 11 around town and 13 Highway.

A guy we camp with twice a year has a V10 and a mid to large size travel trailer. I asked him what his mileage is like. He said 6-8. I said how about when you are not towing? He said 6-8. He is a Nascar fan and drives accordingly.

Wow! V10s aren't known for fuel economy but if he's getting 6-8mpg EMPTY I think it's time to investigate to see if something's going on sapping his MPG. I assume no CE lights are on.

Now, if it's lifted on 37"s and he drives Nascar-esque then there's no mystery to solve, but on stock suspension and rubber 6-8 seems really poor even if he gets his foot into it.

I drive normal on my 37's. I get an average of 9.5-10 unloaded and with our old 5'er, I got an average of 6. It's the nature of the beast, I knew my mileage would go down, but I'm a fanatic about having a truck look the way I want it.

Height of the trailer makes a difference too, the old trailer stood 10-6 and we got 9-10 mpg, the new one stands 12-5 and we get 7-8, same-same other-wise.

Not towing, straight-highway, moderate speed I can get 14-15. Average is more like 12-14

When someone tells you to buy the same rig they own, listen, they might be right. When they tell you to buy a different rig then they own, really pay attention, they probably know something you don't.

My 99 v10 super duty crew cab Dually got a best 11.5 mpg empty, normally it was around 10 empty.

Towing I was 7-8.5 hand calculated.

I imagine that a srw would get some better.

When I first got my van and it had 3.73 gears and stock bumpers and no roof rack, I would get over 15 cruising on the highway.

Now that I have 4.56 gears, deer-proof bumpers, duals, and a full safari rack I get more like 12-13 hwy and 10 in town.

Towing I get 7-10 (depending on load and speed), but when I had the 3.73 gears it would be more like 6-8.

But.... Gas is cheap, and the V10 is a very durable motor that needs few repairs, and maintenance is cheap if you are willing to spend a few hours in the driveway every 100,000 miles.
