Those Astros are one tough mid size, RWD vans. We had one, although I wouldn't of made a habit of moving loaded Macks and Peterbilts with it.

I like the show. It's filmed in my home province and the head offices and truck yards are about 10 miles away.

I've been on an ice road, but only a few miles or so. During the winter...absolutely fiercely cold temps out here, are such that you don't want to be broken down or out of fuel on a lonely road (ice or regular) in the bush.

The show I'm sure, like all shows is enhanced through editing...but I still have a lot of respect for commercial drivers taking loads north on ice roads.

It was interesting to see that F 350 help the semi out of the snow.

I recall once (about 40 years ago) ending up in heavily snowed in ditch in a back country road up here. I was driving a fully loaded E 300 (forerunner of the E 350) commercial van and I was stuck real good.

Fortunately I was able to get a farmer to help me out. He had an F 800 , tandem axle grain truck. He hitched up and gave me a yank. Nothing. He then backed up....and hammered the throttle of the F 800...he reached the end of the tow chain....the F 800 slowed slightly...but weight, motivation, traction and a hard foot on the pedal jerked out the E 300. Fortunately there was no damage.

I was delivering frozen pizza to supermarkets and a case of large pepperoni deluxe suited him just fine for payment. ๐Ÿ™‚

I once pulled a dump truck out of a snowy ditch infront of my house with a 4x4 jimmy. Just a little help is all ot needed. Same as this video.

Well two things;
#1. anyone of the big three could have done that! He wasn't pulling the full load, just what was needed to get the rig rolling. Likely more then the trucks 28,000# tow rating.

#2 If he was pulling too much would not want that auto trans!

On Edit PS: well thne again the amount the F350 could add would be limited by the traction of the four tires on the about 8,500# truck!! Likely didn't even provide 28,000# pounds of pull before the tires broke traction.

I would take an HD auto tranny over a manual tranny any day even under this condition! Exception is some auto trann's without saying names. :W

Well 4Low and 1st gear clutch is fully released before you start moving! Did I mention i run a Double Disk clutch.

They should just use the Superduty to pull the trailer. Obviously the tractor isn't up to the task! :B

And we know it's true because the guy had a dog in his truck!

Wouldn't be the same user of said HD auto tranny that circled their mistakes?

My Duramax was stuck in the Indy 500 campgrounds in slick rained-on grass. A 12 year old Ford 150 4WD pulled out the tow truck and 25 year old Chevy 1500 4WD pulled out my truck and trailer.

Proves I (& tow truck) need 4WD. BTW- don't bother with Good Sam's 'cause they didn't answer. Smart phone worked though.

I have pulled semis out of snow and mud with my Duramax, but its still a pretty cool video. I am sure that episode will help sell a few trucks for Ford.

In the early '70's I drove a six wheel Gmc garbage truck. One of the dumps I went to it was standard practice most of the year for an old yard truck to hook on and tow you in. He wasn't towing he was helping to maintain momentum.

I have pulled many concrete trucks, transport trucks etc with my pickup. They are not truly stuck and just need a little help in keeping moving. Thats what that truck did.
