The problem with organized campgrounds is, well, people. Some will be considerate, others not so and then others down right selfish where they're the only people in the world that matter. OP, I get your frustration and 100% agree with you but realize you're in a society so try not to get frustrated with societal problems as your time gets ruined. The main problem is the selfish, bad people who ruin it for everyone. Best thing to do is just remove yourself from the situation and get away from everyone. Then if you have a noisy neighbor, it is most likely wildlife, which is sanctuary found.

To be honest, I have a generator, it is an inverter gen so it is quieter but I HATE running the thing because of the noise. I only run it when boondocking if I have no other choice because my batteries didn't charge well enough from my solar setup. But again, I'm boondocking away from people as I understand I'm not the only person on this earth and respect other's for their wants of a peaceful time as well. I'd much rather listen to running water in a river, blowing wind through the trees, elk bugling or any other nature sounds than the clanging of a generator.
I love me some land yachting

There ya go. I camp at state parks often and most have electrical and I never have had a generator sound. Picking sites that do have electric or at least sites next to those that do would be a prudent thing in minimizing the changes of running into Open Frame Genny guy.

I don't like them any more than you, they aggravate the heck out of me anywhere but at a race track or a worksite, where they are expected.

I have one of those 8500 watt contractor generators. I use it when I need big power ON CONSTRUCTION SITES. When I am off the grid camping, I sparingly use my 2000 inverter gen during generator hours and then only as needed to charge my batteries if my solar can't keep up. I agree that noisy generators don't belong in campsites.

I think many are missing the point. There is no place in the public camping world for a contractor generator. If you are using the genset to camp get an inverter model. Do not use the cheap, loud contractor style.
You get the savings at the expense of the peace and quiet of those around you.
I understand an obnoxious loud genset will leave you mad....

The same sort of idiot that brings a bug zapper to a wooded campground in the wet season, which is next to an 80 acre lake surrounded by marsh, and thinks he is killing more than he is attracting to his campsite.

I avoid campgrounds in the summer for this reason and lately light pollution. Every kid seems to have a flashlight, some have laser beams. Dad likes 2 Coleman lanterns.

DE Bishop. I have been camping since the early 1950s. There was a time when you could talk with people and ask them in a reasonable tone. Now you can't. Lots of people are armed and have plenty of attitude. I asked a guy recently in a nice restaurant if he would mind lowering his voice. It was on. We had the police and an ambulance. We broke the furniture. Now I keep my mouth shut.

I am tempted to make an untoward comment and get this thread closed. How many anti generator threads will there be, it's time to get over it.

My RVing style is automated and it takes electricty for automation to function, at least you can lay on the ground to sleep and maybe you have not been effected by a physical malady that requires you have a bathroom you can reach in seconds, maybe you don't have to have hearing aids to not hear silence.

You have legs and voices, walk over to those who are offending you and trampling your rights and talk to them face to face, don't be a coward and do it here.

Open frame or closed up inverter ... if there's no other noise source, both will sound uncomfortably loud.

You are preaching to the choir on this. You can bet the person with a contractor generator is not on RV.net The rant should have been directed to the generator person directly or the local Ranger.

BTW I am fully powered by solar.

Well WHO "tents" and posts a generator rant in the TRAILER forum?

But seriously, I HAVE seen "tenting" folks poke a AIR CONDITIONER out of their tent.. It IS A TENT, IT IS FULL OF HOLES, IT HAS NO INSULATION, IT WILL NEVER COOL..

There, I balanced your rant :B
