How many of you own an EV?

I know a few folks on here do. Have posted pics and relevant info etc.
But with the proliferation of threads arguing about how great and economical they are, how many of y'all, especially the noisy proponents own EVs and what are they?

When my gas trimmer head gave up the ghost, I bought a battery powered one. All my old attachments (trimmer, edger, pole saw, blower, hedge trimmer, cultivator) work with the new head and I have to say they actually work better.

EV since May 2011. Current model is an I-Pace. I am convinced it is lower cost when compared to a semi equivalent vehicle. Yes a used econobox would cost less. Still no EV will pay for itself. Transportation will always have a cost. Mostly I like the way they drive with smooth effortless power.

Just replaced my 30 yr old nicad DeWalt 1)2" drill, 5" saw with lithium Rigid equals......should've gone DeWalt, I could add a hedge trimmer!....
Not thinking as well as I should have.
Twin sons ea have $1500-2000+ in Milwaukee lithium power tools they use as home remodel/new construction superintendents.
Not what Grit is asking for.
Spouses driving habits an EV or hybrid would work. Older sister likes her BMW EV.
They have a place. Not sure that are ready for primetime use by everyone for another at least 5 years, maybe in 10-20 years.

None for me thanks, The most battery operated things for me are my Ryobi tools. I have a 2007 Sonata with 303,000 miles and is still going strong, My 2017 Sonata has 113,000 and hope to get the milage of the 2007 one, my 2002 Ford F-350 dually is turning 38,000 so I don't think I will be worried about having to get a high priced ev. I will suffer with the gas vehicles.

I own one Grit; unlike some on this forum that don't own one but just talk.

It's a fully loaded Sonata PIHB with a 10 kwh battery that is rated for 28 miles on the battery alone. It can go somewhere around 625 to 650 miles when both "tanks" are filled.

I bought it used with 20K on it. To me it was a brand new car. The 80 YO that owned it had a stroke and couldn't drive anymore. Due to a recall, the factory replaced the battery and all major electric components in the car right before I bought the car.

Fast forward to somewhere about a year ago. My wife told me there was something wrong with the car. She would get a message on the dash that said check the "HB system" or something like that. Only once in a blue moon though. Then the range dropped down to like 25 miles...then to 20 miles...then to 13 miles...then to 7 miles...then the car would not even charge.

Took it to the dealer in March of this year and they determined the main battery is toast. 10K for a new battery. Fortunately it was under warrantee so good right? Nope, they said back in March it would be August before they will have a battery for my car. Then in August they said it will be October before we get the car back. Still in the shop to this day.

I really like the car but the ol lady said NOPE we are going back to strictly gas. She is in the process of lemon lawing it right now as I type this. I hope I can talk her out of it......but.......:S

Now for economy. The car is rated for like 42 MPG and my wife would regularly get 50 on gas alone. The car would pull down 90+ MPG combined.

Lets do some math. I pay .20 cents a KWH and my car can go 30+ miles on a charge. So about $2.50 dollars a day to go 30 miles. So a dollar/12 miles or 12 cents a mile.

Gas is about $4.75 a gallon right now in my town. My wife can get 50 MPG on gas alone. So about 10.5 cents/mile.

So as you can see Grit, I can drive cheaper by a hair with gasoline "right now." When gas was $7.00/ gallon I made out on electricity only.

When gas was $2.50/ gallon like it was a few years ago, it was way cheaper to not even plug the car in.:R

All in all I really like the car.....not because it's a PIHB but because it's a nice car. It can pull down 40 to 50 MPG and that's very good for a mid size car.

Whether I run on electricity or gasoline you can throw a blanket over both cost wise. (at least right now). Who knows what 2024 is going to bring us. :B

I was going to trade my 2017 Chevy Sonic with 4 cyl. Turbo and 6-speed stick for a Chevy Bolt (LG batteries) next year but I decided to just use my solar charged E bikes and 8.1 van that sits 99.9% of the time in the driveway or my wife's Honda Fit. I have three regular mountain bikes and I plan on converting my big 29+ that came with 31" 29x3.0 tires to a fast 72v E bike. My solar generator that uses a 200v solar panel has Lithium iron phosphate batteries that has 3x the cyle life of regular Lithium/Cobalt/Nickle batteries and is much safer.

I own a 2020 Chevrolet Bolt with 20k miles in 16 months. Still on original battery which is limited to 80% capacity or ~200 summer miles. I am considering a 2023 Bolt EUV to add next year with the return of federal income tax credit for GM EVs.

I own a Bolt EUV, that I got in July. I had a Bolt EV from Jan 2020. I have a reservation for a Silverado EV.

I bought a Silverado 3500HD CC Duramax in August.

I drove a gas Express to Iowa in August.

We have traveled beyond the range 2 times since Jan 2020 in the Bolt. My wife has traded for my daughters Equinox to make a 200 mile trip. I am not interested in spending time to charge. If I was assured a charging point at a destination, I might actually take it.

I also have electric yard tools, and use them when appropriate. I still use gas when necessary.

I would likely buy one if they were cheap enough, but cheap to me is around $10,000. And I've only spent over that for the diesel trucks to pull the 5th wheel.
