Insurance for truck campers.

I just had a review of my insurance. I have one provider for all of my insurance needs. One home, one rent house, five vehicles. I was informed that my truck camper was only covered for $1000 while sitting under the carport. And while one a truck it was only covered for up to the cost of the truck. Meaning no additional coverage for the $25K of the camper alone. If the campers is damaged but not the truck the camper coverage is the same as the truck. With depreciation. I was supposed to have all this coverage issues handled in 2008 when I bought the camper. It has been on three different trucks. And when I place coverage on the new trucks I get an additional rider for the boxes and bed. But now they say the camper most have it's own policy. To cover it on or off the truck. How do others here handle insurance on a 4500 flatbed and camper?

Home owners covers it at home off truck, truck ins. Covers it on truck, have a rider for when camping and it's off truck. All for full replacement value.

I have a separate policy for the camper thru Good Sam. It's about $200 annually, but will drop $30 next year when my last speeding ticket drops off my record.
As I see it, the benefit of a separate company for the camper is that if I have to file a claim, it does not effect the rates on my home owners, auto or business policies. So I'll file a claim if need be. If it was on my auto policy, I wouldn't file a claim unless the loss was over $4000, to help keep the auto rates low.

Originally had both with State Farm but found out coverage was minimal and only when on the truck or at my home.

Some insurance companies do not write RV coverage. But you definitely need more than you have. In your shoes I would consider moving my business, because that agent clearly did not look out for your interests.

Even if you stay with that company, you may have to look elsewhere for RV coverage. But definitely get it.

This topic has been discussed many time. It seems that many rely on their truck insurance for the TC. Others keep a separate policy on the TC. I have a separate policy. It costs me about $200 a year. I feel better with it and not having to rely on my truck insurance to also cover my TC. To each is own.
