Listening to the diesel hum

This one is just for fun.

How many of you diesel owners mute the radio just so you can listen to your motor hum? I will sometimes, 12 years of owning one and it never gets old. I think sometimes its talking to me - clack clack clack...lets go pull something...clack clack clack...is that all you got?....clack clack clack..I want more..clack clack clack...

I'm just being silly I know.

Merry Christmas Everyone!

Sorry, I guess I should have said my Duramax has had its ECU remapped.

You can hear the radio over the sound of your diesel engine? Dang, I really need to get something newer than my trusty old 7.3. I can't even hear myself think when I'm towing my fifth wheel. On the bright side, I can't hear DW talking to me either!

Yeah, it looks like the 1st one took out your hearing. 🙂

Enjoy it while you can. I was stopped at an intersection alongside a new F250 diesel yesterday. At idle I couldn't hear it. When the light turned green I barely heard it, and I am not exaggerating. How in the world do they do that??????

That's funny. The only thing worse would be living next to a bunch of bikers.

I think the sound of my old 6.5 turbo diesel is almost perfect....My son in law drives it now. My Duramax is kind of loud but it's chipped and it is still kind of thrilling to jump in it on occasion. I neverliked the noise pollution comming out of my old 5.9 Cummins diesels and so I've got an old Ram with under 100,000 miles on it that probably hasn't been started in over 10 years. When I really want to feel like a trucker I can run the Cat C 15 in my Peterbilt or if I prefer a quiet smooth ride I take the Cummins ISX 15 equipped Kenworth. But of all my trucks I think there is no time like heading down the highway in my Ford with my woman on my right and my fiver on behind.

My neighbor loved to share his souped up Chevy diesel with the whole neighborhood. It idled for hours, parked on his front lawn.

It needed at least two hours to warm up and another two hours for cool down every time he drove it.

You could hear his tuned up turbo howling for blocks.

Then he got evicted, it was a great loss for the neighborhood.

Quieter the better. Prefer the soft sound of quiet power. Got tired of having to turn the old one off and restart it in drive thrus.

I do that even with mine.

Factory sound muting insulation on fire wall and engine compartment so the relatively quiet 5.9L CTD is REALLY quiet in the cab.

Exhaust brake is only thing I really hear and glad for it.

Otherwise I'm glad I don't hear the engine. Out grew the 'loud pipes' and such when I got out of NAVY. Engine/boiler rooms were nothing BUT constant noise!

I don't need to hear it to have it put a smile on my face.
Just 'feeling' the power does it.
Is it time for your medication or mine?

Hate it but it gets us up the hills. 🙂 I prefer the sound of either of our electric vehicles...especially in the drive thru. EG...there is no sound. 🙂 Gotta say though, laying on the bed over the cummins can lull me to sleep real fast though. 🙂

Love the sound of my 6.0L. Can drive all the way to work, about 45 minutes through various traffic and just love the way is revs with T/H on. My kids think I'm whacked 🙂

Love the sound of my 6.7 PSD. It's very smooth refined power with a deep diesel sound when you press on the go pedal and it pushes you back into the seat. Love it...
