Hey all! We have a 2014 Amerilite 255BH. We bought the bunkhouse specifically because my mother was camping with us. She has passed away now, and I am going to trade for something with a rear kitchen. Any suggestions on the best model? We have a 2013 Ford 150 4 x 4 to pull with. Thanks!

Did you get a new trailer? We have a Jayco Eagle 266RKS and love it. Not only does it have the rear kitchen but it has a closet and 4 drawers beneath the closet for clothing etc. and the bathroom has a wonderful corner shower and a floor to ceiling linen closet. It also has a 83 gal fresh water tank and two grey water tanks and the black water tank. We love it.

Just to shake things up, how about a front kitchen? Also great counter space. Ours is an Artic Fox. Need a 3/4 ton for the 30 ft. but there maybe light weights out there. Nothing bounces around in the kitchen. Just another option.

I am in the market for a TT right now. I remember a post from a couple of years ago about problems with rear kitchens. According to one owner, the contents of the kitchen get thrown around in the cabinets during travel. Is that common or did this camper have too much weight in the back that caused it to fishtail?

No diff from our older trailer with mid kitchen.

We have a Skyline Nomad Joey 260. It has a rear kitchen, front queen bedroom, and a small couch slide. Works for the wife and I. Actually, it's just about the exact layout as the above post.

Here's mine:

The only one I've owned, but I like it so far. Good counter space, fairly big tanks I believe. Fresh water 60, grey 64 and 34 for the black. Lots of storage and 1900 cargo capacity with a dry weight of 5600. Tows fine with my Toyota 1/2. 2015 Springdale 241RKWE

Funny about the reports of possible light tongue weight with the rear kitchen option. I guess it's all about where they place the axles, because mine has >15% TW, over 1100#. Though I do have two batteries on the tongue and 60# propane.

Wish I had the light tongue weight problem so I could add even more batteries!

I have Jayflight 24RKS it is 2011 model.. they make similar floor plans now, but none exactly like it... I tow with 2010 F150 (pre-ecoboost)with no problems.. just returned from 1000 mile round trip Christmas visit with DD and DGD. It has more storage than I know what to do with. I do have to ensure that I have enough heavy stuff in pass through to offset loaded pantry and fridge.

As you look at lightweight trailers, be sure and look carefully at carrying capacity.. some only have around 1000 lbs which you can get to quickly.. mine has nearly 2000... I don't usually use that much, but it was great to have on the recent trip, since I had my mother and her cat along, and LOTS more stuff.
read the stickers on the trailers... some include full propane in base weight and some don't... but they tell the truth.. websites are sometimes just very rough guesses of what manufacturer thinks unit will weigh.

We have a rear kitchen and LOVE it. The word of advice that I'd share is that rear kitchen models may end up being a little light on the tongue once you load up the fridge and cabinets with provisions. Other than that, they are awesome layouts providing for a lot more comfortable space inside and someone in the kitchen isn't in "the way" since you don't have to walk through it to get anywhere. ๐Ÿ™‚

The Surveyor 264 is a near identical one to the KZ floorplans shown above....other than the frig is just inside the door on the left side rather than in the slide. A very nice, comfortable trailer.

See the post above by myredracer. Before recommending a 3 piece, weak frame, you should know that others have had major problems.

My all time favorite floorplan is the Surveyor 264 with an awesome rear kitchen. Looked at it before we bought our HTT and it was more money than we wanted to spend and DH was still adamant NO SLIDE. Our 23SS had a slide and now we wouldn't have one without a slide. Time to move to a TT and I looked again. Our F-150 is rated for 8,000# and IIRC, the 264 came in very close to 7,000#. Rats! Surveyor tends to make a bit heavier trailer due to their building systems, but seems like there may be a very similar model(s) out there that is lighter weight. Maybe others can help on that. If you have the capacity, definitely take a look.
