Mildew on Awing

What is the best product to remove mildew from a awing ?

I use Spray Nine. Just give the mildew stains a good spray, let it sit a couple of minutes, then I take my long handled wash brush and wash the entire awning with soap and water. Rinse it off, and let it dry before rolling it back up. Has worked A1 for through many years and many trailers......and its cheap too!

50/50 water and bleach with dawn added to make it stick . Been doing it for years

I used diluted bleach in a spray bottle last summer. I sprayed both sides of the awning, rolled it up and then rinsed after an hour or so. It was quick, easy and worked great. Just be careful not to drip bleach on yourself.

In another post, you recommended Mold Armor from Lowe's. I used this yesterday and it works great!..

If I can remember correctly I think I suggested that product for a forum member who had parked his RV and his 'roof' and top of awning was covered in black/green mold.

Mold Armor Blocker is a very harsh chemical and you really should not use it regularly. And you shouldn't have to because it actually prevents mold.

And do NOT use it on the side surfaces of an RV.

Camco Awning Cleaner won't hurt the awning. So you can use it often. The "newer" RV awnings have a very thin plastic type of awning material. You need to be careful with it.

A mild bleach solution is cheap and effective on awning mildew.

I've tried all the home remedies and none of them work on all what gets stuck to an RV awning. And btw, Those magic erasers are 'very' abrasive I wouldn't use it on the awning.

Bottom line I found that the Camco RV Awning Cleaner 'formulated' to clean an RV Awning and all the stuff that makes an RV dirty and is the only one that really works.

One spray bottle, No fuss, no muss and the awning looks like brand new when you're done.

Another vote for Tilex.
*Wet the awning completely on both sides with a hose sprayer, then spray Tilex on both sides.
*Roll up awning. Leave for 20 minutes (set timer so you don't lose track of time!).
*Unroll awning and rinse both sides well with hose sprayer.
*Let dry completely before rolling back up. Also rinse side of camper in case any of the Tilex got on it.
*Tip: wear old clothes and a hat in case any Tilex drips on you. Don't ask how I figured this out...

By far the best cleaner I've run across for that sort of thing. I've used it on the camper itself aluminum rims. It works VERY well. There's usually a distributor at the local camping shows around here. I generally keep a gallon on hand. I've found just put it in a garden sprayer and wet the awning down with it full strength. Some light brushing and rinse it off. It will look brand new. (No I don't sell the stuff and not a distributor but it works well for me)

I've tried several other brands of this kind of product and Tilex removed stains that they left behind for years.

Saturate the awning with it and scrub the worst stains if you want. Then roll the awning up for an hour. Unroll and rinse. Very easy process and you don't have to scrub the whole thing.
You'll be amazed at how good it looks.

x2 on the Magic Eraser. Just use VERY lightly as Magic Eraser can be abrasive. Using the eraser is way less sloppy than trying to use a bleach solution or spraying with a bottle of Tilex bathroom cleaner. I have stuff dripping onto my head and bleaching my T-Shirts when I try to clean that way.

Black melts off and the Eraser leaves a chemical that retards any new growth of mold. In the past, I've done my awning twice a year. At the beginning of the camping season and at the end of the camping season with touch ups inbetween.

Once you have it clean use Wet & Forget on the awning. I have used it for 3 seasons and have not had any mold or mildew. Follow the instructions and you will be very pleased.
