New battery time

We never boondock with our TT, and since we now live in a place where it can be stored on property, it will always be plugged in. Do I really need a deep-cycle battery? Probably the only time it will ever be disconnected is winter storage, and then I'll probably disconnect the battery and keep it inside.

If you going to pull it for winter anyways, bite the bullet and go LiFePO4. Half the weight for lugging it around, you can run it dead and not hurt it, unlike flooded lead acid. You can also mount it in any orientation, INSIDE with no dangerous outgassing. It’s only down side is INITIAL cost (but it’s longevity defrays that) and charging while frozen can damage it (pull out during winter or pay a little more for an internal Battery Management System that shuts off at or near freezing).

Hi,

Any battery will do. Make sure the converter is not a "battery eater".

You list a Miami, FL location, and talk about “Winter” storage.

Sorry - I should clarify. I was thinking of just going with a car battery. I used to live somewhere that prohibited having a TT on my property, so it was in storage and went through a lot of charge/discharge cycles. Now, it will be plugged in all the time.

Agreed, no need for a true deep cycle battery setup. A "marine/RV" battery will be more than adequate, and cover you for the rare occasion when you need the battery, like when shore power goes out... A marine/rv battery will be about the same cost as a straight starting battery, but will do last longer if you have occasions where you do use the battery long enough to discharge it more than about 20%.

RV/marine batteries are a compromise between a starting and deep cycle battery. Lower CCA than a starting battery, Longer cycle life than a starting battery but lower cycle life than a true deep cycle battery.

I would get an RV group 24. A small battery may not have sufficient power to run electronics going down the road such as refer.

No you just need a cheap 12 starter battery. You could also probably get a 12v motorcycle or lawn tractor battery.

For your needs the battery is only there to provide 12v power for the emergency breakaway system in case the trailer gets disconnected while towing.

No need for deep cycle batteries if the trailer is always on shore power.

Are you asking if you need a battery or specifically a deep cycle battery?
