I know better than this.... I can't believe I forgot to close the black tank valve the last time I drained. Now I have a mess!

A reminder to all on a semi permanent spot - CLOSE your valve!

I did that once, or somebody did it for me. I'll never know which. But I have one of those caps with the garden hose fitting on it. I always carefully loosen the little cap and make sure nothing is going to surprise me before I open the big cap. At least that way you know there's a problem so you can take steps to contain it before you pull the cap.

I feel for you. I did something similar on my trailer. I thought the black tank valve was all the way closed but it wasn't and when the cap came off it was a gusher. Now I have placed one final valve at the cap that will help to keep that from ever happening again.
