Power usage!?

My power bill was $173 last month!
I have a shop next door to my TT, but I have barely been out in the shop at all last month, haven't run HVAC or anything at all there.

As for the TT, I run the furnace here on 65* but it isn't getting that cold anymore.

Heres what the bill said: total kWh-1638, days-32, kWh per day-51,
Avg low temp-47, Avg high temp-64.

I keep it between 75-73* (A/C)fgtgvfhjnmjbgvjbn in here, I run a 12v fan that claims to use only a watt on high, and I sometimes leave my sleeping fan on 24/7, but its a little 8" Honeywell. I use a 40" LED flat screen, PC, and game console daily. The PC is a small tower BTW. Does all that add up to $173?

As much as I don't like it, it seems right . 43ft RV with 3 AC units and hotwater heater ( which due to the heat we are not using much of ) a LP/electric fridge ( which on electric use,s a boat load of power but I don't want my wife having to switch bottles as I am out of town a lot ) and a washer / dryer unit , fans , large TV, a teenager who cant keep the fridge closed , etc and the kicker it was 118 deg outside for almost 17 days last month so the AC unit would not even cycle off I had to make them cycle off by shutting them down once in a while. we even tripped the 50 amp breaker once at the RV park

Should have expected huge electric bills..

I fail to understand as to why you are complaining.. You have no insulation what so ever (I would expect a home in the desert would have at least R40 to perhaps R50 in the roof and R21 in the walls not to mention Low E double insulated windows), the glass on a RV lets a lot of heat in and you are using a energy hog RV fridge plus electric on the water heater.

I don't understand why folks insist on living in a RV then complaining about silly things like electric bills, being too hot or too cold..

If you don't like that electric bill then perhaps it is time to rent a apartment?

Who is complaining ? not me... read the post. one of the other guys on here used 50 kwh in a day and he was kind of complaining. then someone called him out on it saying he could never use that much power so I posted my 519 $ bill which I had close to some 80 KWH days.. to show that oh yes you can use 50 KWH of power.
I am living in this RV, so I don't have a house payment right now and My job keeps me on the road and I get a per diem of about 210$ dollars a day for living expense so no I am good
plus next month my bill should be around 250 and headed down after that as it has cooled way off from the one month a year of 118 deg. so I really only end up with one really big electric bill a year . and when I had a stick built house out here, I did better on electric but I have had some almost as big before not living in a RV , AC units are not made for 118 and up temps no matter what you are in
and then you tried to call me out on a old post , which hey , they can lock it if we are not allowed to read old post... you also tried to call me out on my bill saying I had a meter that was most probably estimated and I was explaining no and why
people that don't read post......... Check

Track the meter usage at noon every day for a week or ten days, Write it down. This will give you your daily usage. How does it stack up to your utility bill.

We saw a $40.00 jump, just because I plugged in a dehumidifier, who would have thought. I also had a sneak short circuit to my well casing once, but those are very rare events.

I have even gone so far as to unplug or not use an appliance for a day or two, to see if there was a difference.

2881 KWH used last month. but we are full time out in the desert and its been 118 Degs for over 10 days on this last billing cycle. has cooled off a lot next bill should be way lower.

Nothing like bringing back from the dead a 5 month old post..

I am sure the OP has been done and over with the original sticker shock..

First and foremost.. Has the electric co been doing actual readings for the last 5-6 months?

As a cost savings move my electric company often will estimate multiple months then read the meter.. They could have under estimated during those months. Makes for a nasty bill when they catch up..

Once I notice they are skipping readings I simply read my meter and call it in.. This results in the electric company recalculating my bill and they will issue a corrected bill based on my called in reading.

I would recommend with this out of line bill to read your own meter then call it in.. Good chance they have made a mistake by underestimating previous months or have read the WRONG meter..

my bill was 519$ for 2881 KWH hours which came out to about 15$ a day. full electric everything on 3 ac,s , washer and dryer , fans , fridge set to electric ,etc
KWH a day = 87 KWH a day ... right ? I used 2881 KWH hours / days in my case 33 = 87

this is a copy past off my bill :

Pretty simple to read the meter yourself. I am a little crazy and read mine daily, but you could do this for a week to determine actual usage. I am betting there is a mistake somewhere. Your 50 kwh per day would require two-one thousand watt heaters to be running almost continuously day after day.

This is a little confusing to me. But, I think you are saying that you use the Air Conditioner to keep it 75-73 F . You say you are in Texas? What is the outside air temp ? Are you in the shade ? If not, that could be a problem. AC's use a lot of electricity and TT's are not insulated well at all.

I don't get why early in your post you said you run the furnace? Why do you need to run the furnace if it is so hot during the day that the AC is on.

We have always kept our trailers plugged in 24/7 and barely noticed any change in our bill. Haven't looked at our rates, but we have the frig on all the time, we sometimes go out in the evening and watch a movie and just chill out. What I would consider just normal usage. Suggest you call your utility company and ask for comparison in your bill for this same period last year or two and compare. You did mention the A/C @ 65 degrees....maybe your problem. We kept ours about 75+ and if it needed to be cooler when we were out there, only takes 5 minutes of moving the thermostat and you're good. Agree about companies not reading every month or mis-reading. Ask for them to come back out and check.

as mentioned, your previous bill could have been an "estimate" while this one is the "actual" reading. BUT, you also "glossed by" the mention of A/C but really didn't indicate what the A/C rating was... it appears that you running it in some form 24/7 maybe. IF so, that's going to eat up power.

is your bill for this month and last month and actual meter reading of how much power was used? Consumers keeps messing mine up because they underestimated one month then I paid the actual between the two month the next bill. Then they over estimated a month and then my next bill was almost nothing. Another possibility is that they misread the meter.

Seems very high but there is only one way to know for sure and that is to measure it.
