I was doing a litter research for rental tow vehicles, I found Enterprise Truck Rentals is now renting 3/4 and 1 Ton trucks for personal use, at a affordable rate, they list
(3/4 Ton Pickup Truck SIERRA SLT 2500 CREW CAB OR SIMILAR)
for the 3/4
and
(1 Ton Pickup Truck 4X4 CREW CAB 169.5 IN. WB)
for the 1 ton. Has anyone here had experience renting these truck for towing a TT? The site says towing capable but extra fees may apply? I need to haul a 32'TT From NJ to SC but my tow rig might not be up to the task, if you have any experience with these are the brake controllers built in? Do they have standard 7way connections? They are closed until Monday and I just don't know what to ask I don't want to scare them away because I know some of the companys have employees that havery no idea what's going on they are their only to collect your money and hand you keys, that's my experience with the car rental anyway, any suggestions on how to deal with them? This will save me a fortune getting my new home home without risking my daily driver, I did post this question in a simular way in a running conversation, I was hoping to reach out to a wider audience. Thanks
And sorry if there are a lot of punctuation errors and misspelling my tablet is on its way out and does weird things I miss when typing.

Again why is insurance the main topic here when it was not the subject of my question do I have to disclose ever aspect of my situation.

Because this is a forum and that is how forums work.

People are only trying to be helpful. Stomping your feet and screaming "BUT THAT IS NOT THE QUESTION THAT I ASKED!!!" is wasted time and energy. It only serves to make you look like an ungrateful "ass" as you put it.

You don't have to disclose every aspect of your situation. Someone tried to make a helpful comment pointing out something you may not have thought of.

Next time a thread starts going off on a tangent, your best bet is to just take the tangential information as it was intended, smile sweetly, thank people for their time, and move on.

Just to add to the pile... My father in law owns his own contracting company and has a company truck, a Chevy 2500. His insurance specifically does not cover any towed vehicle, unless it is commercial trailer for work.

He uses this same truck to go camping, so he had to buy a separate insurance policy for his trailer. The insurance covers comprehensive and collision to his new trailer.

Its not as uncommon as some people think and its really not as expensive as people think either. His policy is only a couple dollars a year more expensive then mine, which is just a comprehensive policy. His trailer is one model year newer, same manufacturer, roughly the same purchase cost.

Anywho, welcome to the forum OP. Buckle up, it gets rough on these forums in the wintertime. Too many of us on here aren't fulltimers yet, therefore aren't regularly camping at this time of year.

Good to know guys, but I believe "Mr." Wing Zealot (not sure what all of the "Mr." BS is about lol) has a newer truck?

So yes if you are running without full coverage you would have to buy a collision rider on your RV's policy if needed. Did not give that a thought my apologizes! Or in the case of a Company supplied vehicle like Dadoffourgrils has.

I was told by different insurance agents that the collision portion was covered under the vehicles coverage for a towed vehicle. But then I have not owned a vehicle without full coverage for a very very very long time. Hell even my last junker had full coverage!

Mr Dodgeboy - I will collaborate that Progressive will provide insurance that covers the collision and comprehensive. If I am assigned a GM company vehicle that is capable of towing my trailer (and we make several - some with 910ft/lb torque), I can tow my trailer with the GM vehicle. However, GM will not insure my trailer. Therefore, I pay Progressive to insure my trailer, and another insurance company to insure my personal vehicles at a much better price.

I have USAA they work with enterprise so the insurance won't be a issue,

You are being a little too cavalier about insurance. Unless you specifically have a rider insuring your trailer, it probably will not be insured while being towed by a rental vehicle.

That may or may not be correct as my Ins. covers me and mine with liability on anything I'm driving or towing.

Perrysburg Dodgeboy - just think about this for a minute. My truck is 14 years old, I don't have collision and comprehensive on my truck, I have PL-PD.

My TT is 1 year old, I have separate policy for collision and comprehensive on my TT. My TT is probably worth 4 times what my truck is worth.

Do you think the RV loan company would let me get away with not having collision coverage on my TT when hooked up to the truck - that has no collision coverage on it?

Why do you find that to be such a stretch that you can have a separate policy to cover collision and comprehensive on a TT?

Dear Saboken, here's a thought. Maybe just maybe some of the members here were actually trying to help you out and bring up a point or points you may have over looked! The very first response to your post was this "rjf7g, You better call them and make sure they allow you to tow a trailer with their vehicles. You will likely have to at least provide additional insurance for your trailer." and you responded with "I have USAA they work with enterprise so the insurance won't be a issue, I was just wondering if anyone here had experience with enterprise with these rentals?" Just because they "work with your insurance company" does not mean you have coverage when towing a trailer with their equipment!

People are just trying to help you not belittle you! Try and take the posts at helpful suggestions. A heads up Enterprise works with every insurance company that I know of.

Down TheAvenue is correct, just because you have coverage towing your TT with your vehicle that does not mean that everyone has that kind of policy! My TT was covered for collision through my trucks policy as a rider.

I also had a policy that covered the trailer for Comprehensive claims like fire, thift, vandalism or any other damage caused by anything other then collision! I know of no insurance company that has coverage like our friend Wing Zealot says he has "I have a Progressive policy, (a separate policy on the TT alone, not a rider on the tow vehicle) that covers both collision and comprehensive, while both towed and parked. There is no exclusion for being towed by a rental vehicle, a vehicle owned by the neighbor, dog catcher, or any other towing vehicle caveats. ".

I'm not saying he is wrong, I'm only saying I have never seen it. For the record I have been with All State (have them now), Progressive, Auto Owners and State Farm all with RV/Boat coverage. As I have stated the collision was as a rider on the truck and comp was a separate policy on the trailer and boat with their own limits of coverage. The moment you connect your trailer to your a tow vehicle it is covered under the tow vehicles policy using it's deductibles and liability coverage limits not the trailers policy. If someone thinks I'm wrong please call your

If you have a court case that says a TT under such a policy is not covered I'd love to read it. Otherwise I figure its just a bunch of smoke and mirrors.

My Goodness, everyone seems to have their underwear on a little too tight. To the OP, often threads drift from the original topic. It is not an insult to you, it's just that someone brings up a point and another comments on that point. I think many forums are like that. Often, the moderator brings all back into line. Mr. Wing Zealot: I never said your insurance did not cover your trailer. I was merely commenting on tow vehicle insurance extending to a towed vehicle. Policies are different, and insurance laws differ state to state. The best advice for anyone is to read their actual policy and understand what coverage they have. Obviously you have done that, and that proves that you are an intelligent and prudent insurance consumer.

A couple things to add this thread:

1. My tow vehicle insurance coverage will pay for damage done by the vehicle or any trailer in tow (collision). If I want damage coverage for the trailer (comprehensive), it is a dedicated policy that has nothing to do with collision coverage. You may need to pay a supplemental charge if renting a tow vehicle, so the trailer is also covered.

2. Check auto/truck dealerships that have a fleet department. They usually have rental information for their commercial customers when a vehicle needs to be repaired or serviced.

I just had to read my original post to see if there was anything I said to get the insurance thing pounded into me? But I failed to see it? I wasn't expecting this here since it seemed like the people here were mature and understanding again people chiming in on unrelated issues even after I try to say nicely that's not what I am asking and want to stay on the subject. I have LEO's in the family that can inform me about laws that I trust before a stranger I will never meet! Again I have resisted the New York sarcasm that I want to unleash real bad because of how my question was being answered but I moved away from all that in the 80s this place has a lot of good information but when people start pounding unrelated issues into a subject it gets well "sarcasm withheld" anyoing and could drive new members AWAY I didn't come here to be treated like a moron nor to have my intelligence tested.
one more thing I didn't escape the towing business without a scratch I was diagnosed with PTSD because of some of the things I saw, smelled, touched. I didn't know it till years later that it affected me in a long-term way. OK I'm done

and I didn't not brag about my skill set I don't think it's needed but since some can't help it her it goes I was. A tow operator for over 25 years I saw things that would destroy some working for Several State and local police departments motorcycles split in 3 by a bridge embankment and the rider being taken away in 10 body bags! Trucks that hit concrete light poles were the drivers lower extremities were still embedded under the dash when I had to haul it to a location to extract the rest of him, that just scratches the surface. I have over 1 million miles under my belt driving these medium duty trucks with 0 accidents had hours worse than a ER Dr in call 24/7 one day a week off and one weekend a month off I averaged 75 hours a week but in the winter there were weeks I never got home to my son I had to cat nap in the truck between calls, I used to own a small business selling and installing Video Surveillance and Burglary monitoring systems when I could no. Longer handle the life towing anymore. So now you have some of my details and some bragging and sarcasm I had to let out.
