RV WHEEL FAILURE - What Happened ?

When your RV Wheel failed did it explode ?
Or did it just lose air pressure ?
Or was it just the tire that failed and the damage to the wheel ccurred after the tire exploded or went flat ?
Had you inflated the air pressure over 80 psi ?
Was the load that the wheel was carrying greater than the rated capacity in pounds stamped on the wheel ?
Was the air pressure higher than the PSI rating stamped on the wheel ?
Was your wheel aluminum or steel ?
Or have you only had a tire failure but not a wheel failure ?

So Far there are ZERO rv wheel failures due to over inflation .
Is there a lurker out there that would share their experience ?

I have not had a wheel failure. I did have an inside tire blow on a used motorhome that I bought. I picked up the motorhome around thanksgiving in the desert SW . the front tires and the outside rears were relatively new when I picked it up . several months later the RH inside rear tire blew . it turned out that both inside tires had tread but were aged . I should have crawled underneath when I bought it .

I have never had a wheel failure. I have had one tire blowout many years ago (USA GY Marathon) that I am certain was a result of uneducated neglect (underinflated) on my part. It did considerable damage and I educated myself on how to keep that from happening again. I have replaced 5 tires (OE Chinese tires on TT) for cracking (after 18 months of use). I have damaged the sidewall of a tire on a curb (Maxxis 225/75R15D) but it did not fail and got me home. I damaged (belt seperation) a tire recently (Maxxis 225/75R15D) when I hit a rail crossing hard but the tire did not fail to get me to my destination and it was 6+ years old so I opted to replace all 5 with fresh 2013 made Maxxis 225/75R15E (upgraded from D).

All of the OE wheels are bid and bought as a mated assembly and have been for many yearsโ€ฆ most have a sticker on the spoke of steel wheels listing the weight and PSI rating as the capacity that matches the OE tire, because the tire is the weaker of the two by law, they canโ€™t use a rim of a lessor capacityโ€ฆ

My wheels have an air pressure rating of 70PSIโ€ฆ I had to demount the tire to find a sticker in the valley of the rim listing it, and the stickers were already beginning to fall off at less than one yearโ€ฆ my last trailer had rims rated at 75PSI, with the same tire matching sticker on one of the spokesโ€ฆ but they had a weight and PSI rating stamped on the inner side of the rims bead flange (not in the valley) different (higher) from its OE tireโ€ฆ but stamped so lightly it was barely readable or visible even with the wheel removed from the trailerโ€ฆ

I have seen some rims with no markings and information on ratings is extremely hard to find from either the mfg. or regulatorsโ€ฆ apparently standardization is a foreign word to rim makersโ€ฆ

Never personally had a rim failure but hauled quite a few to the scrapyardsโ€ฆ only had one blowout, on the rear of TVโ€ฆ had three sidewall ruptures (no blowouts) on the OE Durosโ€ฆ
Love my mass produced, entry level, built by Lazy American Workers, Hornet

When I had a wheel failure the wheel actually split in half (around the rim). Of course with only 1/2 a wheel the tire went flat instantly. This was caused when a ridiculous driver forced me off of the road (necessary to avoid a head on collision) while he was trying to pass me. When I took to the ditch is when the wheel was cut in half. Yep, I guess this also counts as a Maxxis tire blowout since it cut the tire in half also ๐Ÿ™‚

Two exploded and three just grew lumps or became egg shaped.

My 18k# GVWR Horse Trailer is good for blowing at least 2 tires every year, they run right at rated load. In the most recent 10 years with a boat trailer, horse trailer, FW, and 2 equipment trailers I have never experienced a wheel failure, several tires but never a wheel. In fact in the 30 adult years of my life pulling various trailers I can't say I recall ever having a wheel failure.

What'd you do and what happened?
