She still has it!

The start of summer and summer trips and the old girl still has it.
So I just came back from a 600 mile round trip towing the trailer and all went well. I'm now at 240,121 miles and running strong. For me the concern is not from my truck being a 6.0l instead it's just from the miles. And because they have all been hard miles.
On my return trip home I had to climb up I90 through vantage which for those who have driven know can present a challenge for any tow vehicle.
Anyway I was happy with how well the old truck did pulling that hill. I was able to maintain 60 with enough pedal left to pass slow moving trucks as needed. Outside temp was 89deg my coolant temp was 219 oil temp 220 Trans temp 170. During some stretches when I was passing slower vehicles Temps were plus 10. As I stated I was very happy with how well she did but I do know the day will come as it does with all vehicles that she will need to head to the shop or even worse be put out to pasture and retired.

To the OP...great news when the truck just keeps plugging away. It does feel nice to put one's setup through the paces and get to the destination, pop a cold one, and just relax without any intervening trouble.

Had that on two 6.0's (one was stolen, one was sold in a move) but only for about 50k miles each. Can't say the same for my chevy experience.

...course, then there's the old PA-12 going strong after 83 years. 🙂

Nice post. It's good to hear from the satisfied 6.0 drivers instead of always hearing negative stories or bad tales from a "friend" someone knows. You guys are also right about the shear number of 6.0s on the road doing work with no issues.

X2 - I think many/most folks on here forget about simple statistics and human nature. You are about 100X more likely to read about a problem on an internet forum than something good. After reading this post and remembering all the problems I think it may be more like 1000X more likely to hear about a problem.

This also goes hand in hand with the folks that have one bad experience with a brand and rule them out forever. Talk about an incorrect conclusion.... yikes. I've seen this over and over again.

If you happen to be the poor guy at the wrong end of the bell curve you should probably hop right back on the same brand. The chances of it happening again are super rare. Anyhow, I'll get off my soap box and stop thinking about statistics classes from college.

OP, I'm glad your truck is working out well.... happy camping!

I agree with your post generally about internet issues on vehicles, but the 6.0/6.4 isn't a fable made up on the computer. I am sure FORD and IH would not have sued each other into oblivion over the motor if it was some kind of rare fluke. There are some that ran and still do, many that didn't and never could. Good for you and anyone that got a "good" one. If anyone is bored sometime, it is interesting reading the actual verbage on the lawsuit. Pretty damning. The Ram issues and GM issues on some of their trucks were never to the scale that Ford had with the 6.0. It was unfortunate, and costly for everyone involved. It took building their own motor to right that ship.

I believe he did, and I am supporting his comments. To underscore what was already stated, if you think his comments were "condescending" then you need you need fewer prunes or whatever it is in your diet that's making you pucker so much.
The comments were real welcoming to a new member with some good news especially for him. Then people start piling on hateful comments. It use to be RV forum was helpful to new members, not so much anymore.

Then people wonder why new members don't stick around You can make all the derogatory comments you want about me if it makes you feel better.

Just to set the record straight, I've met Lantley personally and he is not that guy, so back it up a little.

I'm not sure if the OP's post was a typo, or he meant to use the plural "happy 6.0 owners" like there are more than one....

...well I was another happy 6.0 PSD owner for ten years before I upgraded to my current truck. I put about 1k miles a month on mine and very few were unloaded miles. I privately sold my F250 the day I brought home my 5500 even though I planned to daily drive drive it and stay firm on the price. The new owners came by with the money the next day and I only had two trucks in my driveway for one night. I would have bought another Ford and was even leaning that way but the Ram offered more for the same amount money, so I made a switch. I am happy with my choice, but there are some ergonomics that fit me better in the Ford although I have found no mechanical fault the Ram so far.

I'm no fan boy of a particular brand, but I have been not been disappointed with past choices and will keep an open mind to my future ones.

Glad you're 6.0 PSD is doing so well. They definitely sound sweet when running right. As for the other two offerings, I see very, very few 2005~ Cummins Rams or 2005~ GM Dmax trucks around here in Tampa. My cousin has a 2005 with Dmax and while it's a nice truck, it chews on his wallet quite often. After five HD Rams, I'm happy to be back in a Superduty, even with the 5.4L.

This thread is only made possible by the poor performance and notorious reputation of the 6.0. The fact that it is a news worthy item that a 6.0 is working properly speaks volumes.
It is not news that a Cummins or Duramax of the same era are still getting the job done.
I'm not under any illusion of what the 6.0 is hence the poor resell value. I can't afford to piss money off on a new truck when mine is still running. With weak resell I'll run it till it grenades. Do you derive some perverted pleasure running down other people?

If you feel my post somehow ran you down, you are taking this forum way too seriously! If you're happy with your 6.0 PSD I am happy for you.
Owning a 6.0 is like owning a Lippert framed RV. Clint Eastwood said it best (Do you feel lucky punk). Now when you own a 6.0 and a Lippert framed RV the odds are against you. I'm greatful that neither has given me problems, so far.

I beleive the Duramax had its growing pains as well. Early ones had injector problems and another generation had overheating issues. Cummins had issues with a killer dowl pin and 5th gear in the manual transmission so they weren't exactly problem-free either.

^This.
While 350k is the top of the curve for any vehicle, it’s spectacular for a 6.0, presuming it’s never been opened up past injectors. (Rare if that’s the case.)

The OP must like casinos though being a gambler like that.
Or maybe ignorance is bliss. I’ve driven, repaired , managed, broken and fixed so many light trucks over the years, my spidey sense makes me far more skeptical about running super high miles on an old vehicle.
