Silverado Back Up Camera Delay

Last week I purchased a 2014 Silverado 2500. The truck has navigation with the back up camera. The camera is slow to engage. I have to make a u-turn in reverse in my driveway to park. The camera won't turn on until I am nearly parked. After backing up and dropping it in drive I can go about half a block before the camera turns off. Is this normal?

I haven't done any scientific calculations on timing yet. DW's Jeep has a back up camera and engages almost instantly. Hopefully it is something that can be adjusted.

So you have to wait 10 seconds for the camera to operate before it works properly? sounds like an issue to me, maybe a recall in the making!!!

I much prefer the delay and programmed my Ram for it. Backing into a spot or up to a trailer may require reverse, forward and reverse again. The backup cam remaining on for this is a huge advantage for me.

Thanks for all the replies. I read the manuals last night, all five of them, and it says there is a 10 second delay built in. It explains the ability to adjust, however when I went through the steps the option to adjust timing wasn't available on my screen as shown in the book. I'll have to take it in to the dealer. Luckily I have had good experience with our local Chevy dealers service department over the years.

My 2014 1500 doesn't take that long, about what you're hearing from others.
I'll preface that with it is slow, maybe 4 seconds, when first starting the truck and my phone is bluetooth pairing. If I wait to drop it in reverse just an extra second or two it comes on instantly.

There has been a software update for the radio system, you might go to the dealer and have it checked.

Backup cam on my '14 Jetta TDI comes on immediately in reverse. It stays on for maybe 20-30 seconds after you put it in forward gear.

My 2013 3500DA backup cam turns on almost immediately, 1-2 second delay. Yours should be checked.

Yes, that new doesn't sound improved. My 2011 model turns on the backup cam very quickly.

Our 2012 Avalanche turns on instantly in reverse. In forward it takes about a hundred ft to turn off. Call your service dept.

About 1-2 seconds to come on in reverse and 3-4 seconds to go off when shifting to drive. Sounds like a dealer trip to fix. Randu

Backup cam is instant on my RAM. But you can select an option where the backup cam remains active in drive for about 10 seconds, or if it cuts off right away when you go into drive.

On my F250 the backup camera is instant. But it does stay on for maybe 5 seconds after I go back into drive.

Maybe (maybe) there is a setting you can change in the "My Link" menu?
Our Subaru is almost instant. I have an after market unit in our Sierra and it also is virtually instant on off when in or out of reverse.

Our Honda Odyssey does the same when backing up. It takes about five seconds for the camera to activate but turns off instantly when put into drive.
