Suburban 2500 6.0 tow 10,000 lbs?

I would like to sell it to buy an SUV for the family like a 08 Suburban 2500 6.0.
Realistically I only tow my trailer to Glamis about 5 times a year and it's 200 miles round trip.
If I get the Burb and install airbags would I be ok to tow since it's not very far and there's not many hills along the way?
I figure I'd be about 500-800lbs over maximum towing capasity.

I think the main issue would be payload, moreso than tow rating. To the OP, have you looked at the PSD Excurions? I'd have one of those any day before a 2500 suburban. I know they've been discontinued (stupid ford motor co), but if you're mechanically inclined and willing to put in the work, you can get your hands on a 6.0 PSD excursion very reasonably. Just MHO.
Self-Edit: I see in your sig line where you have a 2500 suburban, so I'd imagine your picture is from that ๐ That's a strange scenario, because my 2007 1500 silverado has a hitch sticker that exceeds those numbers (when WD hitch is used).

My first choice unless you NEED 4wd! Otherwise, I would have gone this route instead of my crew cab pickups. Along with I used the pickups at work daily landscaping. Better choice of funds was a CC 35 series pickup for day in and out for me any how. 6 of us in a van would have een way more comfortable. We survived many miles.....
Not sure if you can get a different hitch for a burb tho, if so, then trade in for a 1500 lb capacity HW hitch, and enjoy the burb.

My Odyssey is my daily and love it
Daughter was up from S CA and the mini van was hers for the week. Grandson
and son in law also loved it.
Daughter grew up with my 2 seater, K5 Blazer, Silverado and the sedans. She
now has my old Mazda B2500 (Ranger half ton) and her husband has a 4Runner.
She knows enough about vehicles to make a great technical decision and she never
thought about mini vans...because they were/are soccer mom vehicles...not now
and that is on her list once one of their vehicles dies
1996 GMC SLT Suburban 3/4 ton K3500/7.4L/4:1/+150Kmiles orig owner...
1980 Chevy Silverado C10/long bed/"BUILT" 5.7L/3:73/1 ton helper springs/+329Kmiles, bought it from dad...
1998 Mazda B2500 (1/2 ton) pickup, 2nd owner...
Praise Dyno Brake equiped and all have "nose bleed" braking!
Previous trucks/offroaders: 40's Jeep restored in mid 60's / 69 DuneBuggy (approx +1K lb: VW pan/200hpCorvair: eng, cam, dual carb'w velocity stacks'n 18" runners, 4spd transaxle) made myself from ground up / 1970 Toyota FJ40 / 1973 K5 Blazer (2dr Tahoe, 1 ton axles front/rear, +255K miles when sold it)...

Assuming you have the 6.0 in your truck now, pretty much would the same on power, 08 and an 09 should have the same transmission, which I think is 6 speed?
The issue is loading....max tow capacity with the burb (like many other vehicles) assume only the driver in the truck. Add passengers plus gear in the back and that capacity goes down accordingly.
The new burbs have an integrated hitch receiver that can't be changed out and is limited to 1000 lbs tongue weight. Add the TW of the trailer and payload of the burb and you will be way over GVWR, along with tow rating, GCWR, and RAWR.
Better option would be to trade for a 2500 or better yet 3500 crew cab or Ram mega-cab for more interior space, and still tow the trailer OK. I think you're asking too much from the 2500 burb.
