Taking Delivery

So I'm taking delivery of a 1172 next week. I have a 08 Silverado Dually, and we're going to have to beef up the springs (already did the tires) to take the weight.

They quoted me 10 hours of labor to install the torklift tie downs, and the lance bed plug. That sounds absurd to me, as I've seen the video on how to do it - and it takes 10 minutes per tie down.

Does anyone have any experience with this? I was going to do the Tie-downs myself and just let them install the bed plug. Although - I do think I could probably do that myself, if I had a plug available.

I installed a set of Torklifts (since replaced with HappiJacs) on my truck and it took me less then 2 hours and that was on a Ford where the fuel tank gets in the way. A 10 hour quote is a TOTAL ripoff. Had you bit on that estimate I bet everything you ever came back to them to get done would have been equally inflated.

I did most of the work myself - installed all the TL tiedowns, etc. The dealer installed the bed plug - charged me 1 hour of labor and the part. So not horrible. I also just installed the big wig front and rear sway bars, myself - although it took me a little longer than most people probably do.

DB, those are the manual disconnects for the Solar panels - since this is a used unit, the guy before me installed solar and put these in so he could disconnect the panels or batteries at any point by just flipping a switch. He also installed this solar controller and the fuses. Not sure I'll ever use them, but I suppose in a bad situation it would be good to quickly do it.

That amount of time is outrageous.

The dealer I bought my AF811 from did all the same upgrades to my truck in about 4 hours.

What's the purpose of all those household switches above the monitor panel?

Just as a comment -- I've had work on my Lance done at the St Augustine camper shop several times, including installing the bed-plug in my new 2015 GM. Very good workers, courteous, and OK prices. So, if you choose it, they'll do a good job for you.

Good on warranty as well -- not specifically my warranty, but others in that area tell us they back up their work, and sales.

Wow! I could camp in that. Congrats! I too have installed TL tied owns four times and they are about a 2 hour job for me. I don't tow so I use the TL 10 foot 7 pin extension and it works great.

You're probably right. I'm curious to see how it works out.

I pick it up Tues/Wed! Pictures will be forthcoming.

Personally I would not waste my time trying to make the fridge run on 12V. Just disable that function if you can. Propane works fine.

If you are having the dealer do it, try having the install thrown in. Torklift has instructions and videos on YouTube for many models. I'm sure someone has a video online for the 7 pin install as well.

I think it might be, but I didn't see it there. I called tech support in India and they said they didn't see it, but I'll keep digging.

I would have to run another 8 AWG wire from the rear or the front, anyways, as the stock AWG is too low for the Lance reefers.

Insurance seems pretty high for me, in my opinion. They're saying $550 a year for ACV of $35000.

I went with progressive on my new AF. $270/yr full coverage $500 deductible. That includes new replacement for the first 5 years.

Progressive is the one who quoted me, unfortunately. $550 with $100/500 or $505 with $1000 deductibles. Sucks.

I would say that it's 100% of the fact that it's based in Miami, and our rates here are 200% of the rest of the country.
