Tires and Wheels

Hey all,

Upgraded to a 2020 F350 CC LWB 6.2 and am looking to upgrade my wheels and tires.

Thinking of going Rickson steel but I'm reading the backlog is months out. Any experiences out there to share with regard to working with the company delivery times etc?

If delivery proves to be long, I'm looking at the Vision 81a Heavy Haulers. 4500lbs works for me on those. A bit lower capacity than the Rickson steel but the price is a bit lower as well.

Could use some suggestions on tires in the G or H range, something above a 132 load index. Don't need anything aggressive for off road but do live in the northeast with snow. I realize the tires will be a bit tougher ride than the stock. Looking for experiences that have been good ride-wise.

Will be doing 19.5" rims with 265/70R tires.

Thanks in advance.

Ordered the Vision Hauler 81 Wheel 19.5x7.5 8x170 Matte Black today.

Now the tires. Currently leaning towards the Toyo M608Z 245/70R. People here to give Toyo's great reviews.

I don't put but 10k a year on the truck so I'm hoping they'd last quite a while.

Anyone with experience on these or suggestions on others in the 19.5" G or H load range? Live in the Northeast so need all weather. Take the camper out on the beach a fair bit and plan on doing a bit more off the beaten path camping in the next couple of years. Also have at least one cross country planned.

I ran those tires and got 60,000 miles out of a set with a 3000 lb commercial cap in the bed and they still had a few thousand left when I sold the truck. Make sure you have a good shop do the balancing, it took my local Les Schwab a few tries to get them balanced, one other thing I had bad wheel squirm and tracking the grooves in the pavement for about the fist 6000 to 8000 miles before they settled down. They were great in the rain snow and ice but so so in mud.

I have had both the G and H 19.5s. the G gives a better ride and still exceeds the load rating of the Visions if you get the 245/70R19.5 size

More specifically, you can’t go down much past 60 and some are recommended to not go past 70. The beads on 19.5s are a different type and don’t handle airing down. About the only option you have is to go with the widest 19.5 that will work on those rims and still clear your fenders. I ran 245s, but I’m sure some run 265s or maybe even wider.

As suggested, you should still consider 18s at 4080 instead.

19.5’s are not the best choice for beach travel , especially if required to air down .

American Force rims are another choice. They are about as expensive as Rickson but have higher ratings and more style choices plus they ship quicker than Rickson.

The tires I have are 285/60/20 with a load rating of LT125, 3640#. The 295/65/20 tires would be too large with too much of a change in the speedometer and gearing. It sounds like the 285/65/20 tires would work and they do have a 127, 3860# load rating.

Or 275/65s or 295/70s. All greater load range than your current tires.

My BFG KO2's just came in and my tire company told me to come down and have them put on but I've decided over the last 2 days that the KO2's had too many reviews with horrible wear on them with trucks. So, I've done more research and decided on the Toyo LT 295/65R20 129 4080lb for my 2018 3500 Ram. I like dirt roads getting me to places nobody else is so want and need the A/T tires. Lots of good reviews for this tire plus my brother in law has them on his 2500 Silverado towing a 32ft 5th wheel and his Jeep..... and loves the tires. Right now, the tire shop is seeing if they're available in Calif. because there's none in the warehouse.

While I agree that the Toyo ATs are one of it not the best AT tire on the road, you’ve been too influenced by the internet if you’re not considering the BFG ATs in the same or similar size.
Don’t get too wrapped around the wheel, no pun intended, about this. Both are very good quality tires. The only bad thing I have to say about the BFGs but it’s old past experiences is some tires take too much weight to balance, in my opinion.
Toyos, great choice.
BFGs, not not a great choice but I would give the edge to the Toyos.
I run a lot of tires on a lot of trucks in a lot of conditions and don’t buy into heresy, fwiw.

295/70/18 (34.1 overall) or 285/75/18(34.8 overall) both come in at 4080. Method Racing is the only wheel manufacturer that I have found that comes close to matching the tire rating, their HD line are rated to 4500lbs.

I just added Wrangler All-Terrain Adventure with Kevlar to my F250 Superduty, they are fantastic in snow and ice, a very comfortable ride and very quiet. They are fantastic in snow and ice, a very comfortable ride and very Tested them out in the MN ice and snow and bitter cold temps. I am extremely pleased with the purchase.

I went with the Visions for our F350 SRW. That was to allow me to go to commercial tires as I felt the rubber would be the weakest link. I went with Michelin XDS2's. 16 ply with load range H. Camper on, I run them at 120 PSI. Camper off I run them at 80. Supposed to be good for 100,000 kms. and so far it looks like they just may. I got drive treads for the rear but steer treads for the front (quieter up front). I also upgraded the TPMS valves at $35 each but they have never worked. The truck won't recognize them. Every time I ramp up to 120 psi I get a dashboard message,..."low tire pressure". Go figure. I just feel much safer with these tires.

You would have better luck asking which oil should I used..lol

Just sayin..

Let the good times roll.

I just bought new nitto terra grappler g2.. almost 4000lbs per tire ..bad ass for a stock rim.

My Ram has 20" rims and stock 285 60 20 tires. The original Firestones are wearing quickly so I will probably need to replace them after my next big trip. I am thinking of Michelin Agilis tires. Load E is rated for 3640#. What choice do I have for a higher load rated tire in that size? Is there a bigger size that will fit my rims?
The only 20", 4080 lb. rated tire I'm aware of is the 295/65/20. Unfortunately, this tire has a 35.1" diameter (285/60/20 is 33.4"). FWIW, a 285/65/20 has a 3860 lb. rating with a 34.6" diameter.

BTW, the character based Load "E" rating is a rough, general tire category based on the number of plies, air pressure, etc. The "numerical" load rating (125, 129, etc.), along with a conversion chart, provides you with the exact number of lbs. the tire is capable of supporting.
