Truck Camper Disposal?

Hey all-

It's finally time to let go of my '92 Lance. It's in pretty ratty shape, and while that's fine for me it's not so fine for me and my SO at the same time. So I'm going to be moving on to a TC with a slide, and I need to take the old one somewhere to dispose of it.

I have a stable lift on it, and want to move that to my new camper, whatever that is. Since the Lance doesn't have jacks anymore, since the stable lift, I'm not sure how I'd get it off the truck...

So I think in essence I'm just not quite sure how to go about getting rid of it.

Any thoughts?

I simply pointed out facts. Facts that those pictures clearly show and whether or not I ever owned one is immaterial to those facts. The pictures provide all the "credibility(?)" needed.

As I said it works for what it is and within it's design parameters but it sure isn't the be all wonder system some try to portray it as.

On Edit: It should be noted that in all the years I have been posting those same pictures no SL owner has posted any to refute them.

As to not wheeling in places where the jacks need to come off, a former member here(now passed) Don Curley, did indeed remove his regularly to wheel his truck with the Outfitter on it in some pretty rough terrain. It is a simple procedure to remove them as (at least on Outfitters) there is a plug on the power wires and only a few bolts to deal with.

The Stabil-lift system works well enough for what it is but it is in no way something that owners should attempt to wheel anything harder then a graded Forest Service Road with.

For the record I agree- I love mine, I have worked on the cabover part of the roof with it off the truck and not had it move a millimeter. It's solid as a rock. It may just be more hassle than I am interested in to move it to the new camper.

I'm going to take this one step at a time- You guys have had a wide variety of ideas, and I really appreciate your input.

The sad part of this story is that I have a 94 Lance 480 that I am stoked about because after 15 months since major hail damage and spot repairs with monster tape, I am steadily going to the door this week to meet UPS driver with all the new parts and pieces I need to replace vent covers, ac cowls, marker lights and various other bits. I finally have the time to fix the damage. 1 month ago, I was at the Northwoods dealer with an approved credit limit to purchase a AF 865. I decided, or rather my dear wife, that we needed to fix our ratty old Lance back up and wait a few more years.
I am in the 50 dollar craigslist camp. Somebody will gladly turn that old Lance into a hunters hideout.

I hear that folks who use a Stable Lift love them and would not ever return to typical jacks.

One thing to consider is how you plan on using your TC (is it not too different from now?) What I mean is this: I think that the Stable Lift's are a great product for the right user. I would never have one as I take my TC off-road a lot and I do not want stuff getting hung up on the under-structure of the SL... I would not want to damage anything.

Do you see yourself going off road?

This may be the genius suggestion... I like it a lot. I think the electric jacks may work ok for me, we'll see. If they prove to be reasonably stable I won't need the stable lift.

Excellent point! One other thing to consider is that the new camper I have in mind has electric jacks. I just don't know if that's as good as the stable lift. I use my camper less now than I used to... I may just sell it with the stable lift and call it a day.

put it this way. if its sound enough to unload it without it falling apart, someone will want it as a project. I would list it on CL for maybe $500, than see what pans out. you can always lower price or let them talk you down, but you can't change your price up.

also, is the old stable lift system (2, 3, 4 jacks) going to be compatible with the camper you will buy to replace your current camper? If NO, sell it with camper attached :).

Thanks guys I'll look into those suggestions.
What happened was several years ago my '87 Vacationeer 11.5 was just too rotted to be worth saving so I looked for a nicer camper. I happened to stumble on the EXACT SAME '87 Vacationeer 11.5, in nice shape, at a giveaway price. I didn't even want that same camper again, but a deal's a deal.
Well, since it's the exact same one, I never got rid of the old one because it has every possible spare part for the "new" one. That's been handy several times, including providing perfect pieces for my bathroom/shower sectioning job that it needed to fit my newer Dodge with the narrower tailgate.

But ya' know, I'm tired of having a junk camper lying around!

And you'd have trouble giving it away since WA feels the need to license TCs. Just stupid, IMO.
I'd call around eastern WA where it's not so greeeeenie. Maybe Crackima/Tri cities. Rural areas tend to not have transfor stations and have good ole fashioned dumps. Upside is a TT doesn't have any fuel of stuff to leak out.
