Our appt is tomorrow at 1pm. I'm excited with a lot of apprehension! I have no idea how much reading my husband has done, however I have probably done enough for us both. This is our first travel trailer, though we are experienced tent campers.

We purchased a 2017 Wildwood X-Lite. I have scheduled our first two weekends already, both at local campgrounds...they are both about 15-20 min from home.

Thank you for this forum. I have a ton of lists from here, and lots of notes.

Congratulations.

Don't expect that every time you go out that things will be perfect. Camping is like life. Sometimes you have fun and everything is great , other times things will go wrong. Don't let the bad times ruin the good ones.

Sometimes you get the bear and sometimes the bear gets you. Lets hope you don't get gotten by a bear.:B

Woo-hoo! You are going to have a lot of fun. Be sure to ask lots of questions here --we all love to help newbies avoid our mistakes. And bring a sense of humor with you when you travel -- there will be mistakes along the way, and they can be funny, at least in hindsight.

Congrats on your new RV!. :C

I see you have dogs. Just a bit of advice.

Do several days of "Driveway Camping" with the dogs. BEFORE you head out.

To make sure they get the feel of the RV so it won't be a big scary white box on your first camping trip which could be disastrous at your first CG trip.

Let them go inside while you sit with them. And then step outside to see if they bark, talking to them that you are still there, etc. Cook a meal, stay in the RV overnight with them, etc.

A couple of days "driveway" camping with the dogs to get them used to to the new RV is worth it's weight in gold for that first big trip and many more. :C

We must be willing to get rid of the life we've planned,
so as to have the life that is waiting for us.

Congrats ! ! !

camping has been part of my life for 40 years, it is great to be outside but with the comfort of having a dry warm/cool place to sleep.

number one on that list.....

don't forget the ever important pre-take off walk-around, both from home and the CG.

I have found many pre desasters just from this alone.

check everything like power coards, water hose, stabalizer jacks, hitch, tv antenna is down, vents are closed, dogs/kids are in the truck, all gear is loaded.

I ripped off an antenna from a motorhome once.

my friends are full timmers and it is his hobby to walk around a site after the campers leave to see what all they left, he has thought about writing a book on it, or starting an e-bay store.

nothing like camping in your favorite spot with quiet neighbors.

have fun and be careful and safe.

Congratulations MarinesWife. I pray God grants y'all many fun and safe trips. Above is some good advice. Especially about not rushing. Every time I have rushed things got worse.

When you get your rig home driveway camp for a couple of days. You will find out what you need to have in it before your first outing. You will be surprised at the amount of the little things you missed. I am sure you will get a lot of enjoyment on your purchase.

Congrats! Enjoy your trailer. Remember this wise advice i was given on my first trip out with a much larger tt than i had previously.

Take your time backing in and setting up. Remember, it's your hard earned money. If someone comes around the campground loop when your trying to back in, let them wait. Don't feel you have to rush. That's when bad things can happen. Most folks are very understanding and won't mind. Good luck

Take your time and enjoy! It's a good idea to use a check list when hooking up and disconnecting. At the same time, take some time to make a packing list so you can avoid forgetting anything important.

Congratulations and welcome to the wonderful world and freedom of having an RV.
You'll love your new rig. Sounds like you've been doing your homework. Great idea to do what I call a shakedown near home and make a list of what you need to stock it up. It's really like outfitting a second home in a way. Finding the right things to fit in the right places. Getting the right trash can and where to place it can always be a challenge.
Enjoy and happy camping.
