What we got

After weeks of dithering, we finally did it yesterday. We were looking at Ram 1500s and Ford F-150s, despite really wanting a diesel, but we just couldn't justify the size of the 2500s and F-250s for our needs. We did find a new Ram 1500 that we really liked, but the cargo numbers just weren't working for us and it was pretty expensive.

So we got a 2014 Ford F-150 XLT, dark red metalic.
4x4
3.5L V6 Ecoboost
3.73 axle ratio
Crew cab
Cargo capacity 1441, per the door tag
GVWR 7200
Factory tow package

We drove one with the off-road package, which would have allowed us to tow 9600#, among other things, but didn't like the ride or the feel of the seats. So this one doesn't have those items, but it has a somewhat stiffened suspension as part of the tow package.

We downloaded a table from the web that shows that outfitted as it is, with that axle ratio, it's "real" towing capacity is 9600, but since we top out at about 6000#, that's not a concern.

Anyway, that's what we have. It's gigantic and doesn't have a helper handle in the driver's door, so getting in is a good show for anyone watching me, but I think it'll work well for us.

I'd post a picture, but can't figure out how to do so. (I asked the Admin. to pin that information to the top of the thread list, but it hasn't happened yet.)

Ben, I posted them with my truck pictures. I hope you can find and use them, and I'd appreciate it if you can find a way to block out the VIN. (Not only do I not know anything about trucks, but I also don't know anything about computers and how to use them to my advantage.)

This is its roommate, for now.

I'll post the labels in a later post.

A great choice. I joined the forum in 2003 and haven't even tried to post a picture. I plan on doing that when I get a good shot of truck and RV hooked up. I'll have to read the instructions. Enjoy the new truck.

The important thing is to keep the loading on the rear end gears as light as possible during the break-in time. Just go as easy as possible without hard acceleration or high speed, especially on hills.

No. That one had the off-road package and cloth seats, and the ride was quite hard and uncomfortable. This is identical but without the off-road and it has leather seats.

We'll have to change our appt. with the dealer to get the warranty work done on the TT, They need to keep it a week, so that will push back any trip we wanted to take in early March. Oh well. I may have to drive to Portland, OR, which is about 12 hours, which may speed up that first 1000!

Task for this weekend - read the manual!

Is this the same F150 you looked that had 300 miles on it already?

If so, you are already 30% there! ๐Ÿ™‚

The manual does say 1000 miles and for the engine break in too..

I'd make sure it gets at least over the 800 mile mark.

BREAKING-IN
You need to break in new tires for approximately 300 miles
(480 kilometers). During this time, your vehicle may exhibit some unique
driving characteristics. Avoid driving too fast during the first 1000 miles
(1600 kilometers). Vary your speed frequently and change up through
the gears early. Do not labor the engine. Do not tow during the first
1000 miles (1600 kilometers).

(page 287 under "Driving Hints")

Familiarize yourself with the basics in the manual and take that thing out for a good long road trip or two.. ๐Ÿ™‚

I think if you can manager to get to at least "800" mile mark, you won't cause the world to implode. ๐Ÿ˜‰

The reason I don't know about the image link is that I post on this forum and the TT one, and that's it. It would be good if it were posted at the top of EVERY forum - lots of people post images on all of them.

Very good choice on your truck, you did well! As stated above, the manual does read not to tow for the first thousand miles.

Towing you can expect 9 to 11 MPG.

This is why it is not a snide comment I made, the directions to post an image has been there the whole time, even I used them.

Some folks are not as computer savvy as others, so why make a snide nasty comment, when a person admits they are not real savvy.
