What we got

After weeks of dithering, we finally did it yesterday. We were looking at Ram 1500s and Ford F-150s, despite really wanting a diesel, but we just couldn't justify the size of the 2500s and F-250s for our needs. We did find a new Ram 1500 that we really liked, but the cargo numbers just weren't working for us and it was pretty expensive.

So we got a 2014 Ford F-150 XLT, dark red metalic.
4x4
3.5L V6 Ecoboost
3.73 axle ratio
Crew cab
Cargo capacity 1441, per the door tag
GVWR 7200
Factory tow package

We drove one with the off-road package, which would have allowed us to tow 9600#, among other things, but didn't like the ride or the feel of the seats. So this one doesn't have those items, but it has a somewhat stiffened suspension as part of the tow package.

We downloaded a table from the web that shows that outfitted as it is, with that axle ratio, it's "real" towing capacity is 9600, but since we top out at about 6000#, that's not a concern.

Anyway, that's what we have. It's gigantic and doesn't have a helper handle in the driver's door, so getting in is a good show for anyone watching me, but I think it'll work well for us.

I'd post a picture, but can't figure out how to do so. (I asked the Admin. to pin that information to the top of the thread list, but it hasn't happened yet.)

Congrats on the new truck !!

For those reading along; the Ram 2500 SRW (single rear wheel) is the same body length as the F150, and comes in diesel. Just a little taller. We added nerf bars for $300 so we don't have to leap up to the front seat.

We know for sure as it had to fit in the garage where we stored the F150.

Margaret, you are going to have to change that signature at some point. I don't think you are going to convince us of that Newbie title for much longer :). By June you two are going to be Old Salts at this ;).

Thanks!

Good looking new truck.
Now to keep Ford happy as they supply your trucks warranty follow their breakin requirements.
We had a member towed with his brand new one ton DRW and ruined the trucks rear axle (bearings and gears). The truck mfg refused to cover the repair under warranty.

Congrats on the new truck!

How'd you find one with such high payload? I was looking for a good deal on a '14 and test drove an FX4. That turned out to have a sticker saying you can load 1150 lbs into this vehicle! ๐Ÿ˜ž

I tend to drive... expeditiously. I want to get where I'm going as efficiently as possible. The Fiat beeps when you hit 80, so it does a lot of beeping. Can't do that dragging a trailer, of course, so I'm going to have to learn to slow down. When we had the 30' Class A and pulled a Jeep, I'd be doing 75 without even knowing it. My poor husband was having heart attacks.

We wasted a lot of fuel back in the day, enjoying the secondary two barrels on the four barrel carburetors of that era. Heavy foot equals wasted gasoline.

Beautiful truck MargaretB! Here's wishing you many miles and years of good service and happy travels with it. I like your pic. Reminds me of our driveway with now DW's F250 and my '13 Prius Xsp.

Thanks for the kind words. I suspect that some on this forum and the TT forum got tired of my endless questions, but 99% of the people here have gone out of their way to be helpful and were so generous in sharing their experience and expertise. I"m hoping, now that we finally, after two false starts, have the right combination of TT and TV, that the questions will abate. What a relief!

Thanks again.

Smart cars are awful! My little Fiat is a terrific little guy. Unfortunately, we have to sell it. It was my birthday gift three years ago, so seeing it go will be a real wrench. I LOVE that little car.

Thanks, Mitch. I was able to delete the VIN in both label images, but RVNet brought up the images but not the URL needed to post. So I'll do it later. Thanks again for your help.

Hi Margaret, you have to edit the original image you uploaded to the picture hosting site where the photo resides.

You should be able to "edit" the picture in some manner. Look for a "paint brush" icon and when you hold down the left mouse button and drag the mouse around, it'll "paint" over wherever you go with it.

Then save that picture with the edits on it and that's the one you post on the forum.
