Yes, it has. I'm just now getting our Scamp ready for a first camping trip using it this year. Things just seemed to happen to keep us from getting out with it this summer.
We were in Alaska for 3 weeks in July & had a Marvelous Time & we were able to do
9 days in a Rented Aliner Camping Trip while there.
Hope to do some fall trips with the Scamp this year. Haven't done that yet. But our Fall would be later in the year than yours in New York. May try some winter trips as well.
Never have to do any personal snow plowing here in Las Cruces. A few times the city & state might have to, but not very often. It's been many a year since I have even had to sweep or shovel the sidewalk or driveway here in Cruces.
My son does plenty of snow plowing with his ATV in Alaska.
It's a shame you have to book a site to camp. Never much for booking places. Usually can find a spot down here pretty easy. Some places, weekends might we harder, especially holiday weekends. Try not to go then. Usually one can find a place to hang out in the woods or by a lake & especially at a more desert environment sites.
May the Winter Fly by as well. On second though, all this time flying by will end up getting us closer to our graves too soon. Ha!

Eastern US has slim to nill opportunity to boondock for free.
Oh, I really wasn't talking about boondocking for free. There are gobs of those places for sure out this way. Some of which I was thinking of at first would be dry campsites or just water/electric. A few might have full hookups. Many of the private would have full hookups.
There are quite a number of nice state parks, many nat'l parks, some BLM campgrounds & a few COE campgrounds & a wide gambit of nat'l forest campgrounds. Then there are many private ones scattered about & an occasional 'Indian' casino which has campsites.
Back East there are So Many More People which changes Many Things including camping. Also more humidity which can make having AC a priority and without having substantial elevations to flee to when the weather heats up.
But yes, we have a lot of BLM land which often offers dispersed camping as does the many nat'l forests.
