Oregon Coast

We a departing for Oregon today for a family reunion a little south of Portland. We decided the Friday after noon we would like to head to the coast for a few days (northern part of the coast). Every State Park, and few RV parks I called is desperation, are full. Does anyone have any other hidden gems or ideas of places I could stay at the last minute? Is it possible on a weekend to drive over and realistically find a spot. I will be in my TC and my parents will be in their 42ft Win. Tour.

The state parks on the north coast will more than likely be full this weekend. While they are more money, the private parks might be your best bet. Premier Rv resort, logan road rv park, or Devils lake rv resort all in Lincoln City are all nice. Cape Kiwanda RV resort in Pacific City or the KOA in Warrenton also worth a try. One other we have stayed...Sea and Sand RV park outside Depoe Bay.

PS . Might try Devils lake first...I called Monday for a space this weekend with no problem getting in

Check out the Thousand Trails Zone Pass for one year at $399 . If you don't like it after one year you just walk away. We love the Parks in Oregon and Wash. We have stayed at Florence Or {South Jetty} Pacific City Or La Conner Wa,
Mount Vernon Wa and others for over 18 straight summers for two months. Never had a problem getting res. Full hookups most of the time sometimes sewer not available

All the guy wants is a nice weekend at the beach not buy the whole coast. Also if you want to go as far as Newport there is a big park on the south side of the bay near the Hatfield marine science center.

The guy asked if anyone had any ideas and since he lives in Wa State and TT has the best parks in Or and Wa it was something to consider

Some of the OR State parks are all no reservation and some have some sites that are no reservations while others are all reservation. You can find out which have no reservation sites on the OR Parks site. We have had good luck if we arrive early afternoon on week days.

This is run by the Port of Newport. This is one of our favorite areas to visit, although we usually stay at South Beach State Park. Here is the link to the Port of Newport RV page.

There is also a nice family owned campground in Cannon Beach called Wright's for Camping. It fills fast, but the sites are small and they don't book online, so there may be something there. Super nice people BTW. Wright's for Camping, Cannon Beach

It has been a long time since we were there ('97). We found places to overnight in a few state parks as we drove up the coast (never with hookups), never with reservations. We did a week end at a state park just north of Newport...next to the beach if I remember correctly. This Seems Like The One

In '86, we enjoyed several days just above Astoria at Cape Disappointment State Park (formerly Fort Canby State Park), a 1,882-acre camping park on the Long Beach Peninsula, fronted by the Pacific Ocean. It was a very large place, some camping near the beach (full it seemed) but a lot in an open glasses area. But it has been a while.

It might have some first come, first served sites, worth a call. http://www.parks.wa.gov/parks/?selectedpark=Cape%20Disappointment

The park offers 27 miles of ocean beach, two lighthouses, an interpretive center and hiking trails.

Visitors enjoy beachcombing and exploring the area's rich natural and cultural history. The nearby coastal towns of Ilwaco and Long Beach feature special events and festivals spring through fall.

The campground was Walking distance to Cape Disappointment Lighthouse which began operating in 1856, and is now the oldest lighthouse still in use on the West Coast.

Weekends are notorious for being hard to get into in most places. Good Luck.

You might want to check the Warrenton/Astoria/Seaside KOA. It's a large park and it's generally the one place I can get in on short notice if all else is full. You can go to their website and see what types of spaces are available and book online. I just looked and they do have openings this weekend.

We usually avoid the coast in the summer for just that reason.
If you don't need hookups, there are numerous camping places in the National and State Forest land in the coast range only a few miles from the coast that are nice. Take a look at this website for ideas near where you want to be.
Also, many of the state parks have loops that are not in the reservation system. You just have to be there early in the morning and you may not get two spots next to each other, but there is a good chance of getting spots mid-week.

Have a great trip,
Steve
