Just saw another article on snowbirds and how folk on both ends are trying to cope, both the ones unable to migrate, and the ones who live based on supporting the migration.

What's the significance of Dec 21? The border will stay closed for probably another 6 months (less if the immunizations roll out faster than expected).

They say that the border will be opened in may, and the vaccine is expected earlier, in early February. Well, it will be seen already.

Here is the history of the Canada-USA border closure due to the coronavirus:

....The Canada/US border: Canada-bound will likely remain closed until the Global Covid situation drops down to the per 100,000 ratio that many States World-wide are using to curtail non-discretionary travel.

Remember that travelers wanting into Canada who may be coming/traveling from countries (or, States) on the Covid no entry list, can simply fly into the US, and potentially drive across the land border....IF the Canada-bound land border "opens" prematurely.

Think about it. Its a loop-hole that Canada will never allow if "the virus" remains persistent well into 2021 (and God forbid, into 2022).

IMO, the Canada-bound land border will remain closed till the end of 2021. And I would not be surprised if Canada's land border remains closed (bilaterally, or, unilaterally) till the end of winter of 2021/2022; this to guard against a potential 3rd/4th wave.

Something that we should all consider is a possible re-vaccination campaign with a polyvalent agent against several strains (maybe two or three new strains) of sars-cov-2 next year. In this situation, public health is always behind, playing catch-up.

Gulag?

Not likely, just smart people doing things the smart way.

Not sheeple following what the political whack-job spin doctors put out there in hopes of getting that 15 minutes of fame Andy Warhol promised them.

BTW, a GULAG (actually the acronym for the state agency charged with creating and overseeing them) was a forced labour camp set up as a form of political isolation. They were isolated but often enormous encampments, and when not working the residents were free to intermingle. Over the years between WWI and the 1960โ€™s itโ€™s estimated that over 18 million people lived in a GULAG.

An RV park is purely voluntary and rarely requires forced labour.

It is just an arbitrary date that was chosen about 3 months from the last date - they don't know how long the high rates of infection will increase so extending by 3 months at a time.

Its the date the Canadian government picked. Its 30 days at a time And from the past, doesn't look very arbitrary

Again...... I'm not going to Canada ...its too cold.... I'm just waiting for my jelly.

Previous Canada-USA border closure extensions

Here is the history of the Canada-USA border closure due to the coronavirus:

On October 18th, the border closure was extended to November 21st
On September 15th, the border closure was extended to October 21st
On August 14th, the border closure was extended to September 21st
In July, the border closure was extended to August 21st
In June, the border closure was extended to July 21st
In May, the border closure was extended to June 21st
In April, the border closure was extended to May 21st
In March, the border closure was announced from March 21st to April 21st

Why do so many people blame the border closure on the Canadian gov't? The decision to close the border to non-essential traffic back in March was made jointly by Canada, the USA, and Mexico, and all the extensions since then have been decided on jointly. Also, it is the US gov't that is allowing air travel across the border while at the same time blocking land crossings. Canada has nothing to do with that loophole.

We have a mix of RV sites, park models, mobile homes, and even brick homes. The few vacancies are fairly equally distributed among these sites. Most recent years we have been close to 100% full. The park has been eerily quiet though. very few happy hours and if so they are small groups. nearly no activities and outside of the park visitors discouraged.

We know two full-timer couples who have done exactly this. I have some sympathy for them as they would not have a place to live in Canada in the winter.

No sympathy for those who have a Canadian S&B and fly south anyway.

We're not going south this winter for the first time in many years.

No sympathy from us either. We were "houseless" for 7 years. Covid closed the borders, we priced out BC, the border jumping RV delivery service, and buying real estate. We bought a townhouse for the winter, which may get flipped in the spring, rented, or saved for next winter. The Alberta government has been on the news saying their vaccination target is 10% by the end of March. I won't hold my breath until our turn comes.

Well, the vaccine is the only thing we have in the toolbox at this point seeing as we didn't have a national plan to begin with and now we're #1 in infections and deaths as a result of this novel, pandemic virus! ๐Ÿ˜ž
Plus, the government is doing very little - the only thing they've done is subcontract the deliveries!

No significance to me. Canadian government picked that date.

Yup, the vaccine will save us. The government is here to help.
