Any "must see" suggestions going thru Vermont?

We have a 24 ft Class C and pulling a small car. Looking for CG to stay, detach the car if necessary or stay at a nice site. Any natural things I should see? Any RV parks you would recommend? Places to eat?
Anything at all, bugs, wildlife, campgrounds?

What time of year are you planning on? Most of the replies have focused on the usual tourist "to-do's", but you must see the Green Mountains, Lake Champlain and the Islands, and the rugged Northeast Kingdom. A great ride is to travel all the way from MA to Canada on VT RT. 100 through the middle of the state. either from the north or south would be fine, and since it is a meandering 2 lane highway you can wander off at any point. There are lots of posts on RVNet on the horrors of bugs, but I have been in VT, NH, and ME for well over half a century and have never been terribly bothered...

Another thought - while Rt 100 takes you right thorough the heart of ski country , the mountains, and right by Bed & Jerry's (IMHO some what over-rated) another great trip is up (or down) Rt 7 on the western side of the State. Start in Bennington, up through historic Manchester, Middlebury, Shelburne (Shelburne Museum, a must see) Burlington and St. Albans. Rt 7 skirts Lake Champlain, with vistas of The Adirondacks the Green Mountains. Lots of CGs along the way.

Check out the Hope Cemetery in Barre, VT. They have some of the most beautiful granite sculptures/headstones in the world. Yes, I know it sounds strange, but check out the link on Roadside America.

We loved Lake Champagne Campground in East Randolph, VT. Located perfectly for day trips to some of the attractions mentioned above.

An interesting place us the Shelburne Museum just south of Burlington. In the same area is the Vermont Teddy Bear Factory which is fun to visit especially if you have younger kids.

A good campground is Lone Pine Campsites in Colchester just north of Burlington.

Others have named most of the good sites, but here's a must... Mt. Philo SP, you can drive right up to the top and overlook the whole Champlain Valley. The best spot in VT for a picnic. While you're there, head over to Ft. Ticonderoga NY, (short trip) take the ferry over and back by the new Champlain bridge at Crown Point. I also like Champlain Maritime Museum in Vergennes, better plan to spend the whole day there...

Sorry. It's The Bennington monster, there in the Bennington area. I believe I've heard it as the green mountain monster one time before since it's there in the green mountains.

If you head north to Waterbury and Burlington, keep going a bit and visit the Champlain Islands. Great campground right on the lake is Champlain Adult Campground is beautiful. (The adult part is just a liability thing due to some drop off areas near the lake.)http://www.champlainresort.com/

Quechee Gorge is fun to explore. The Quechee KOA is excellent. Visit the small town of Weston and Killington Ski Mountain. The chair lift runs all year so you can enjoy the view. The marble museum in West Rutland and the town of Manchester are other nice places to see.

Quechee Gorge. There is a state park or the Quechee Pine Valley KOA was great. Definitely Cabot Cheese factory and Ben & Jerry's factory.

Cabot Cheese Factory, yes I know Tillamook is good but Cabot Extra Sharp Cheddar is even better! Don't know if it is still there but it used to be next to Ben & Jerry's.

Shelburne museum is amazing. Visit Montpelier - a state capitol with about 10,000 people. You can walk from end to end in about ten minutes. Vermont Country store and Lake Champlain.

Ben & Jerry's factory for sure - don't miss the Flavor Graveyard. South of Burlington, don't miss the Shelburne Museum - when we were there, tickets were good for two days and we needed both of them. And, just for fun, the Vermont Teddy Bear Factory.
