Parking, getting around on Vegas Strip.

About how long is the Vegas Strip to walk whole thing? (More than a mile?)What is best transportation to use if we can't walk the whole way? (Husband has Parkinsons) if we drive our truck to strip, will there be places to park in middle of Sept.?

Definitely consider the monorail. If you could taxi/uber your way to the MGM, the monorail can take you to multiple destinations between the MGM and the old Sahara (I forget what it's called now). They're nice and air conditioned, and usually not very crowded. We're big fans of Uber. So easy to use and generally cheaper than a cab.

We used a modified version of this approach on our recent trip to Vegas (we just got back 2 days ago). We stayed at the Las Vegas RV Resort, about a block away from Sam's Town. We used the free Sam's Town bus shuttles to the strip and downtown, which do not require that you be staying at Sam's Town. The drivers were very helpful and courteous. You should plan on tipping them for their service.

I believe the Las Vegas RV Resort is a little more expensive than the Sam's Town KOA, but has better security. After the first night of walking back to our site from Sam's Town, we decided it would be better to drive over and park our vehicle at Sam's Town to catch the shuttles.

The shuttle to the strip drops you off at Harrah's Casino, which is pretty much in the middle of things. I would not recommend trying to walk the entire Las Vegas Strip in one day. Since we had several days to cover everything and did not stay out after the last shuttle back to Sam's Town, we never had to use Uber or Lyft.

The Strip is pretty long especially if your going up to the old part.

the monorail runs up and down the strip but quite a ways east. The stations drop you off at strategic hotel/casinos and you have to walk a LONG way from the monorail, through shopping malls, etc. to get to the casino/hotel. And it is a long way from one casino to the other, up/over the strip via ped. bridges, etc.

I'd suggest a central location to a few that you want to see (such as the show at Treasure Island) then park at one and walk the strip to the others. If you stay toward the front of the casinos you don't have to walk so "deep" or away from the strip.

Everything on the strip is stretched waaay apart and there's miles of walking involved. Heck, just getting from one side of the street to the other seems like a mile! Intersections have pedestrian overpasses and also escalators & elevators. The bus is a good way to save walking.

If you have a 4x4 truck, I'd forget about using a parkade. We nearly got ours stuck in the Venetian parkade and DW had to walk beside the truck while I crawled along as there was barely any clearance to the roof. A couple of hotels have surface lots. Harrah's next to the LINQ has a parkade with valet service and they could park our truck okay except the valet guy wasn't exactly pleased to be the one stuck with parking it. Find a lot that works for you and then spend the day getting around by bus and/or monorail. Just walking around some casinos and the LINQ can be exhausting so plan your time and don't overdo it.

There's a monorail along the east side of the strip behind the hotels that can take you as far south as the MGM. There's also another on the west side and IIRC doesn't run as far north/south.

If you're there for the first time and able to drive around in a vehicle, it's amazing (and almost shocking) how different the world is just a block away either side of the strip. The strip is a fantasy world like you're on another planet! We camped for 5 days at the nearby Thousand Trails CG and had a lot of fun.

The monorail is about 4 miles long and goes from the MGM to up by the Stratosphere.

I just want to check if the oversize lot across the Boulevard from Mandalay Bay is still available. Has anyone parked there within the last few months? Is there a charge for parking there?

The bus is the best suggestion. Pay the daily fee and go 1 block or the whole strip

You can only hail cabs from certain locations, such as a casino, you can't hail a cab walking down the strip. Perhaps Uber might be an option?

There's a mono-rail too. It's a lot of walking.

Most of the casinos have parking behind the casino. It is a long walk from there to the front of the casino. Take a shuttle from the cg to your destination. You will be much better rested.

When I was last there about 9 or 10 years ago they also had a monorail train that connected one end of the strip to the other.
