Not far north of Mt. Dora is Umatilla and Olde Mill Stream RV Park. I'd guess it's about 10 +/- miles from Mt. Dora. We stayed there 3 nights last winter and thought it was a nice park. See the link below.

You might want to check out Emerald Pointe RV Resort in Zephyrhills, FL. It is an owner owned park and a beautiful place. This is our 3rd season here and we love it.

Mt. Dora is very nice, but there won't be any state parks there. Closes will be east of Ocala. If you're going to rent from a private park instead keep an eye on the lot widths, some of them run pretty tight in that area.

If it were me, with the specials both are running I would go for Williston Crossing (more resort atmosphere).

We are looking at purchasing a Park model in Williston Crossing.

Is that a 55+ community? Never mind. I found it looking thru the rules. It is not.

We are currently in Grand Lake (Sun Resort in Citra, Fl). If you like golfing this resort is for you. Some other activities like shuffle board and tennis. Twenty miles to any big city with Walmart, etc. (Ocala and Gainesville).

We visited Williston Crossing today. A lot of activity going on to open new sections - Rv's, purchased sites (both RV & Park models). A very nice new clubhouse, pool and paving on roads. It is 17 miles to Gainesville and 25 to Ocala. If it were me, with the specials both are running I would go for Williston Crossing (more resort atmosphere).

We are looking at purchasing a Park model in Williston Crossing.

Full timing isn't "always camping". It's a different life style living in an RV.

I spent a few nights at a state park. That gave me time to look around and pick out the spot I wanted. The state park was $24 a night. Elect, and water only.

You might want to check the Sun Rv Resorts website. They have some deals for first timers at their various resorts. There could be some restrictions but it is worth a look. I saw ads for $89/week, $189 for a month + they charge $3/day resort fee - whatever that is I don't know.

Williston Crossing is a nice park located in Williston. They have a $99/wk special for first timers.

We are staying at Ocala Sun RV Resort just south of Ocala. Nice, clean park, reasonable rates, owned by a young family who seem intent on really improving the place. Kinda full right now though.

We stay in a mixed RV/cabin resort about 8 miles from The Villages. It's like country yet there's shopping and some restaurants only 2 miles away. And there's The Villages with great shopping in the other direction. Ocala is 15 minutes away.

Be sure to consider Rock Crusher Canyon RV Park in Crystal River. Great state park type atmosphere with all the amenities in great area. Note rates INCLUDE electricity!

I second Rock Crusher. Beautifully landscaped, quiet, nice vegetation "fences" between most sites, great pool and hot tubs.
Another one you might check out is Holiday Springs in Spring Hill, just south of Crystal River. They have a lot of year-round and seasonal residents, but lots of short term sites as well. They have a really unique swimming pool which is actually a natural spring. They build a patio around it. Click here.
