Maxxair vs Maxxair II cover

I was going to install a couple of Maxxair covers over my vents and then saw the new larger Maxxair II cover. Should I spend the few extra bucks for the Maxxair II?

Sorry to hijack the thread but I switched from the Maxxair to the Maxxair II over my vent with the fan. I noticed on both covers that they don't allow the crank up cover to open fully. I get noticeable improvement if I climb on top of the camper and open the Maxxair II while I camp. Why wouldn't they make the Maxxair tall enough to open the crank cover fully? I have to say I'm alittle disappointed in that fact. Do other brands allow to fully open crank up cover?

Not a hijack at all; according to the Ultra video on the covers from Fantastic, they claim the covers open all the way if I recall correctly. The Ultra's are the most expensive covers however.

I must have the max 1 on mine. Airflow wasn't too good so I took out the screen and cut out every-other louver. Works great now.

That video is somewhat flawed- they are testing their product with no screens installed (which are "optional"), and the competition with the standard screens installed. If the customer wants to run the FF on high, I always remove the screens (and always with the standard Maxxair), but most don't run them on high due to noise.

It is also wrong when they say 'notice how the fan labors'- blocking airflow will make a fan run faster- moving less air means doing less work, which means lower amp draw.

While I certainly don't have any test data to back it up, I'm positive the larger vent on mine allows for far better airflow with the fan off than the 'standard' cover did previously.

I believe it's to do with the larger surface area and wider angle to the open area. With the vent open while driving there's no doubt the larger area draws far more air through. While stationary, the air flow is noticeable through it, even with the fan off.

IMHO the larger opening on a wider angle allows for a greater vacuum to form as a breeze passes over it.

I do have fans, but thinking about it I would think that if you want to do convection cooling that any kind of restriction would be a bad thing.

I have to agree with other posters unless you have a fan you don't need a larger maxxair 2 that being said when I do upgrade to a larger fan in the bathroom I will get the larger cover

Not me.. With Camping World down the street, I bought one of all of them for the fantastic vents and settled on the MaxAir2's. I don't think the ultras are any better than the small max air, or the $15 CW covers. The design is the same on them

Where I think it might make a difference is if you're running a fan in the vent, then the air flow advantage of the Ultra might be an assset. On the 2 vents I'm going to cover, there is no fan, just a plain 'ol vent.

I just replaced 3 MaxxAir vents with the MaxxAir 2's and love them. A lot more air flow. Got a really good deal on them at the Sportsmans Guide web site.

For fantastic fans they suggest larger maxair ii because it handles more air flow. Mine opens so I can clean inside it.
