Lift process for removing all 4 tires

I want to buy 4 new tires for 5er. Want to remove all four tires/wheels, take them and the new tires to a mounting shop. I have hydraulic front landing gear and electric stabilizer jack system in rear. Can I lower front hydraulics to the ground, extend the rear jacks to grade, then raise front high enough to suspend all four tires? If not, can I support frame just behind rear tires and do the same. Ultimately, I need all four wheels removed to get new tires remounted. I want to avoid twisting frame so I think option one is risky, plus, I'll be putting about 12K lbs on the rear jacks. Any better suggestions? I am full timing and don't want to drag it to an RV dealer shop.

I store mine with the tires off the ground and I've done this for 10 years. I pull the rv onto block first... A separate block under each tire. The hard part is done by the truck... the rv is fully raised. Then I put 4 jack stands under the frame and use a jack to remove the blocks... one at a time. Viola, the 5er is on jack stands the easy way! Craig

While I was at the shop with the 2nd set, the tire guy sez "why didn't you bring in the trailer? we would do all the removing and reinstalling no charge!" - that is the last time I do it myself!

That's all well and good if the tire jockey knows the correct place to jack the trailer. I'd bet the first place some of them would look with their floor jack would be under the axles.

Yep, saw one at a local tire shop and they had a HD floorjack under the middle of each axle and all 4 wheels off.

I recently put 4 new tires on. I used a bottle jack and 4 jack stands. The bottle jack was placed under the U-bolts and the jack stands were placed as close to the U-bolts as possible. I had my rear stabilizer's down to help stabilize. The whole process was simple and safe.

I used 2 HD ramps. Pulled trailer forward with front tires on the ramps, removed rear tires and went to town. Replaced moved ramps to back tires and repeated. The short amount of time the 2 tires were overloaded didn't hurt them. They are not moving and the truck was supporting a lot of the weight.

If jacking the axles, DO NOT put the jack under the round axle tube, it can crush the tube. If the axle is over the spring no problem.

I don't think any axle tube is that thin!!!
My axle is under the spring, and i lift on the tube directly under the spring!

Myself far easier to haul the 5er to the tire dealer!
If I want to remove all tires at once I would build cribbing out of 4X4's or 2X4's, place under the frame just in front of the spring hangers, and just behind.

A 5200 lb axle has 3/16th wall thickness. Concentrate the weight on the wheel in one small spot(top of jack) and see what can happen. Not saying it will, just can.

I don't think it would be worth the effort. I assume you have a torque wrench and know what exact torque your lug nuts have to be set at?

When was the last time you bearings were greased? If they are due why not just take it in for the tires and bearing maintenance at the same time?

One tire at a time the TrailerAid Plus is the way to go.

But much easier to haul the RV to the tire dealer.

But I'm confused now about lifting point. My leaf springs are above the axles.
I jack on the u-bolt. Only need to lift 1/2".

If you have the Lippert levelup system, you should be able to raise the four rear jacks then the fronts. You might have to block up the jacks to get off the ground though. These jacks are rated to lift way more than the trailer weighs. To be safe though you should put stands or blocks under if you remove all at once.

I did it once. Trailer was stored inside on level concrete floor. I installed the spare on location. I put wheel cocks in front and back of the spare and put a ratchet strap around then to make sure they were tight against the wheel. I then broke the lug nuts loose on the other three wheels.
I then placed a bottle jack with the screw extended to within a half inch of the spring mount of each of the other three wheels and jacked them up just enough to get the wheel off. I then lowed the rear stabilizers. I then removed the other three wheels and tires.

I just checked my Holiday Rambler 5th wheel manual and it says when changing a flat tire, you should put the jack under the axle several inches in from the u bolts(towards the center of the axle). Then put a jack stand with a block of wood on it under the main frame rail to provide additional safety. In both cases they say to use a large piece of plywood under the jack and jack stand. And yes chock the other tires.

Lots of good ways to do the job. The only one that I would not do is lifting by the axle, anywhere on it. Risk of slippage. If doing one wheel at a time lift under the bottom spring leaf.

The way I did mine, was to hook up the truck and raise the front jacks. That way the front end is supported by the truck and hitch. Then I took some 6x6s and made a platform to rest my 12 ton jack on. I used a metal plate to spread out the lifting area of the jack on the trailer frame. I placed my jack behind the rear spring hanger for the back axle and in front of the front spring hanger for the front axle. I made two trips to the tire shop.

I could have jacked up the trailer by putting the jack under the axles, and many people have done it, but Murphy is never on my side so I did not chance it.
