I have to take my new 2014 38' Mountaineer in for repair on my air conditioner and I thought I might just bite the bullet and have them install the 2nd in the bedroom. What size should I put up there, and I'm quessing around a Grand with labor at Tacoma RV in Wa State. Am I close??

There are 2 ways of thinking on this...first the cost ain't a whole lot of difference between a 15k and a 13k, in fact I got a 15k cheaper then the dealer could install a 13....$800 installed...also not a major difference in size just a couple of inchs... But say your main AC goes out on a trip,,,mine did.. you stand a better chance cooling your whole rig with the 15k.... It also does a better job cooling down your rig quick. That is all we mainly use ours for is the intial cool down because our main that is ducted will handle the load even in Texas. Buuuutt if you boondock a lot you may want the 13k since it will make your generator happier.....Myself I say go big or go home lol lol

They told me when I picked her up last month that I'm pre-wired for a second. I was thinking the 13k btu

Should be fine.

Good advice for the lowest profile available - no matter what btu you choose.

When I ordered my 5er I was to have a 13K in the bedroom. When it came in it was a 15K in the bedroom and 15K in the living room. I am glad they both are that size as it is not as hard to keep it cool in TX.

When I get another 5er I will order a 15K for the bedroom too.

Our MS has a 13,500, it cools good. If I were to replace it I would go 15K.

There is a 9,000 (or 9,200) BTU unit available which should be more than enough for any bedroom. It is also shorter than the others which helps with overall unit height.

Size matters!

Add a 15k unit to the bedroom- the price between a 13.5 and 15 is negligible- If it gets too cold (it won't) turn it down! Remember- all the heat inside the unit rises and runs up into the bedroom. On hot days you will want as much cooling capacity as you can get.

Adding a third unit to my trailer and I already have (2) 15k units.

While our 15k BTU main unit is ducted there was too much of a temp difference from one end to the other (10-20 deg). Freeze the bunkhouse to cool the Master bedroom or roast the bunkhouse to heat.... Combined with some temperature sensitive asthma, we had a Dometic 13.5k BTU heat pump installed in the Master Bedroom and are very pleased. Don't always have to use it, but when we do it's awesome. Cost just over $1000.00 installed. Some units are pretty loud so do your homework. Personally, I like sleeping to the white noise of the fan.

15 in the living room, 15 in the bedroom, they work wonderful together or if we just run the bedroom at night will make you grab a cover if you set it to 60 degrees. The cost difference is minimal and the added cooling just might come in handy. You can always adjust the thermostat if you need to.

We have two Dometic Brisk Air 15's. Didn't cost much more than the 13's and they do a great job.

We also have a 13.5 in the bedroom and a 15 in the living area. We can run both on 30 amp service using a Hughes Auto former. Just don't turn on the microwave at the same time, you'll throw the breakers. This really helps in Texas.

Ours is 34 feet long. Added a low profile 13.5 Penguin. It is one of our better investments. On these hot Texas days that extra air is well worth the money.

I have a 13.5 in my bedroom. It cost about $1000 installed. I have had the kind a/c with and without the heat strips. I now prefer to use electric space heaters over the heat strips in a/c. IMO, the a/c fan blows too much air for the amount of heat produced by the strips. Plus the heat strips can get dust on them and stink when they heat up. Even with a 15k and 13.5 a/c's, We need both running hard to get temps in the 70's inside when it is 100 degrees outside.
