I have a 2500 06 Dodge Mega Cab with the Cummins in it. Dodge says it can tow 13k but on the cummins forum people say this is a joke and it can tow a lot more. A few people have said they tow 30k on a regular basis. Im going to be towing a 07 Jayco Jay Flight that won't weigh more than 9500 loaded while pulling my rzr and a trailer that will be another 2000. That puts me under 12k which is almost at its max weight. Does this seem reasonable or should I consider airbags or something similar?

I recommend airbags with any heavy fiver. I have yet to see anyone towing 30K lbs. with a 2500. I tow 19K lb fiver that is 43 feet long and I know its back there with my 2012 3500 High output.
The 30K pulling machine is the 2013 Cummins with 850 lbs. of torque with the AISIN transmission. NO GAS engine in any of the tow vehicles will smell that kind of weight let alone tow my fiver.

Get the airbags and keep your tires at the right pressure. If you are still uncomfortable I would say trade up to a 3500.. You will be good to go...!

I easily pull 11K with my 01, with a small chip, I am a bit over GVWR, but have almost 1,000# of extra rear axle / tire capacity.

Get a Toyota. They can pull 1/2 million pounds. Or was it a quarter million. Either way. Truthfully, the tires on the truck dictate more than anything what you can pull. When you approch GRAW you are there.

My first priority is always the max rear axle weight rating and the max tire weight rating. The amount a dodge, and probably any brand truck, can trailer/pull is a lot more than sticker. The trade off will be how it affects your transmission and brakes.

I had an 2005 SRW cummins and the GRAW was 6100#, tires rated at 6300#. With my 5th hooked up I was at 5750# rear weight. But my GCWR was over the sticker by 800#. The truck handled the trailer well enough and stopped it fine. Just took a little longer to start or stop..

Mine was a factory truck, no suspension work or anything else. It did sit down on the overload bump stops, but I didn't feel it differently.

Just my .2cents.
Thanks,

The problem with the Mega Cab is its ridiculously low payload capacity/gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR). If you're one who feels the need to stick within all of a truck's ratings - you're going to find that truck hard pressed to tow a lot of things. 😞

IMO, the tire and axle ratings are more important than what Dodge rate the truck for. I would be very comfortable towing what you are considering with your truck.

The Cummins may be capable, but the truck is a different story. My advice is to stick with what Dodge tells you as opposed to what you read on the Cummins forum.
