Average gas mileage on C class

We now have a 32' fifth wheel. We get 10 miles pulling. Thinking of downsizing to C class (about 30'). Hoping to get at least 10 miles to gallon. Have any suggestions?

In general, it's all about speed. remember, you're pushing a brick through the air. In our rig, the "sweet speed" is about 58 MPH (we drive by the tach for the best mileage). At an average of 58 MPH, we get between 8.5 MPG to 10.5 MPG depending on terrain, wind, and whether the fuel contains ethanol (Without ethanol in the fuel, we get as much as 1/2 mile per gallon more).

It seems like the new Ford V10's get a bit better mileage than the Chevy's do

Your only real control is speed.

I've had my small light C for a while now and the overall average is in the low 9s. Yes I can occasionally eek out 10 plus on flat roads favorable winds, terrain at 55 mph. Realistically that just ain't in the cards much of the time. Like last winter's trip to Death Valley where I sniffed out every headwind in the state and averaged 8 MPG for a couple days.

If you're looking for fuel economy in a class C, one of the Sprinter diesels may be for you.

Just my two pesos worth, 2015 Forester on a Chevy. 12.1 towing a light trailer with my Polaris Ranger, speeds 60 and under, mountainous and coastal driving. 9.5-10.5 MPG if I am trying to set the pole position or keeping up with city traffic. I shift my automatic transmission, keeping RPMs under control. My mileage does drop if I just let it do it's thing. I calculate my mileage as the onboard computer is always wrong. JH

Better mileage with diesel but historifally it has been more per gallon than gasoline so go figure.

Agreed. I try to at least keep up with the truckers. It makes their life a whole lot easier if they aren't having to frequently change lanes to pass vehicles that are driving 15-20 mph under the speed limit. Our interstate speed limit in Arizona is 75mph. In parts of Utah, it's 80mph. Many fleet owned commercial trucks are governed to run at 65mph max.

10 to 11 mpg. 31ft V-10. Driving a consistent 55 mph.

IMHO anyone getting only 7 mpg in a class c has a lead foot. :W

Its' all about speed and driving habits with these RV's.

Driving 10 mph more does not get you there anytime sooner but mere minutes. Drop you speed and get your foot out of the take offs and you can prove it to yourself how to get more mpg. Just saying.

7-8 see signature, towing midsize pickup truck. Few Class C's get less than 7 and few get more than 9.

30ft. Cambria, E-450 chassis. I have been recording fuel vs. miles for the past 3500 miles. It averages out to 8.5 over that mile span. Various conditions, individual trips vary.

Pulled my 08 JK to Vegas and back and got 8.5 going there. it was the maiden voyage and stayed at 60mph. Haven't fueled up since I returned. I switched from gooseneck

toy hauler to Class C. My Duramax got 10 mpg sometimes better with the loaded trailer, jeep inside, 70 gallons of water. Plus a Polaris quad weighing in at 700 pounds.

With the fluctuating price of fuel it's hard to gauge cost. Rent a nice one for a weekend, take a trip and see for yourself.

8 to 9 as long as I don't go over 62 mph. 6 if I go 70 mph.

Unless you go with a diesel you will get about 7-9 mpg.
Mine gets 9.2-9.75 mpg but it is on a Chevy Chassis,Fords get a bit less.

I get 8.5 to 9.0 with my 29' without a toad.

Depends on how you drive. If you have a toad.
Real world figure 7 to 9 mpg. If you get a diesel powered C. You will get better mpg.
