We recently sold our Raptor 5th Wheel and F350 truck and are replacing it with a new Class C which will be delivered later this month. It will be a Forest River Forester on a Ford E450 Chassis. We have gotten conflicting information at our dealership and rep about the warranty that comes with a new Ford Class C.
One party there tells us that there is a 3 yr bumper to bumper on Ford installed items plus a 5 year/60K warranty on the drivetrain which includes only the transmission, driveshaft and axles and not the engine.
Another party there tells us there is a 3 yr bumper to bumper and 5 yr 60K powertrain warranty, which includes engine, transmission, drive shaft and axles. This seems correct, but for some reason, I cannot find any verifying information. Does anyone have any suggestions or insight?
Obviously, this is not inspiring my confidence in my dealership.

Well, the biggest problem I have had, with both ford and chevy class c chassis, is finding a dealer to take them to when a warrantee repair was needed.Best bet is to visit the service department before you need service . Look around, do you see box trucks, school busses, meduum duty trucks being worked on? Then approach the service manager, not the service writer, and ask about servicing your class c, never say motorhome. Tell em they will only be working on the cut away van chassis. If the repair is not under your factory warrantee, you have many options, lots of independent garages happy to do the work.

If it's under warranty, Ford will direct you to where you can take it. Otherwise, you will have to find a Ford dealership that has the means to work on it.. i.e. a lift big enough....or you find another place that can work on it..My local Ford dealership can do an oil change, but they couldn't do a NC safety inspection. I found a local Tire and Auto place that has an RV lift. They did my oil change (E450 - V10) and safety inspection. Took my car to them afterwards for an oil change. They are now my go to place to take all my vehicles for service...

If you have a specific Class C picked out, use that VIN number. Often, dealers will have it posted on their website. Or you can go and get it.

Only FORD dealers that work on trucks will service them. Most dealers in farming areas work on large Ford vehicles.

We had a valve cover that was over torqued during assembly which cracked and started dumping oil. Fortunately we were at Hendersons in Grants Pass OR. They were able to fix it after a call around to ford dealers within 100 mile towing range declined to fix it. We have had several issues with our 2012 450. I had an oil consumption problem and found out there was a service bulletin out on that. New valve guides were installed last year. This year the transmission blew South of Redding CA on I-5. Both were covered under warranty. Here is the direct number to Ford's Motorhome service group--800.444-3311. they might be more helpful then the standard Customer No Service line you might have called.

I have not put any money on this, i think that what happened is as follows. The finance officer asked a service tech what was covered under a drivetrain warranty so she would have that information for customers. The tech is thinking drivetrain and not powertrain and tells her that the drivetrain is only the transmission, axles and driveshaft. Voila, a drivetrain warranty becomes limited in the mind of someone who shouldknow better. Having owned an F350 and understanding the warranty, I am pretty sure that the information I am getting is not accurate, but, as I say, the RV industry has it's share of anomalies and I am trying to be certain that this is not one of them. No, not John's RV. We bought our 5th Wheel there. This is another dealer in our metro area.

Our 2008 E450 came with a 5 year/60k mile power train warranty that includes the engine. I've never heard of a vehicle power train warranty that didn't include the engine. In my opinion, it's not a power train warranty if it doesn't include the engine.

As far as he VIN goes, the one time we ordered a RV, about 10 days after ordering it, we had the trailer VIN #. It wasn't delivered to the dealer for another 5 weeks or so. That was a Forest River Hybrid Travel Trailer (Rockwood Roo). You should be able to get the VIN number of the E450 and the serial of the house from the dealer a week or two after it has been ordered.

I would be concerned with a Dealership that didn't know the E450 warranty. I can't imagine it is the first Motorhome they have sold, so they should know the warranty. They are either really bad at their job or they are trying to trick you into buying an extended warranty.

It sounds to me like the dealer is being purposely vague or even misleading about the factory warranty in order to sell you an extended warranty which is a great profit center for them. Of course any new vehicle would come with a warranty from the manufacturer on the engine. I prefer not to deal with sleazy people,especially when large amounts of my money are involved.
I am NOT a mechanic although I do play one in my garage!

All it is is an ordinary truck. The truck is bought by the coach builders who in turn make it into an RV.

1. If you 'ordered' an RV: The coach builder had to buy and/or take a truck from their inventory BEFORE they build your coach to your specification on that truck chassis.

2. If you are buying one "in stock": The coach builder has already built the coach on the truck chassis.

In EITHER case there IS a truck involved from Ford WITH A VIN.

The whole story of no warranty available sounds very fishy. And if in fact that Dealership is refusing to give you a copy of the warranty take your business elsewhere ASAP, AND report them.

Please tell us you have not signed any papers on this RV.

We must be willing to get rid of the life we've planned,
so as to have the life that is waiting for us.

Are you buying this from John's RV? If so go elsewhere. They have to have a copy of the warranty information there and if they won't show it to you then walk away.

The post above from the Logans is spot on. The engine is included in the 5 year and 60k miles. All motorhome chassis' from Ford have the same warranty.

On my '11 the engine was covered as well as the transmission and driveline for the 60K. I have never heard of a Ford standard factory warranty which included only the transmission back and not the engine. Engine accessories may fall under 36K Emissions may even have longer warranty in some states. If you look thru windshield you should be able to write down a VIN in a worst case that the dealer is no help at all.

No, I have not bought it yet, I have no monetary interest in it yet. I don't want to "settle" for whatever I get, I want to be informed on what the warranty covers. I am looking for folks who may have already bought a Forester or something similar to ask them about their experience with the warranty and what theirs covers. I am told two different things by two different people in the same company and am trying to resolve the contradiction. In essence the question is: Does a Ford Warranty on a new Motor Home cover only the drive components with the engine included or without the engine included? Someone out there has purchased one of these and knows. I know this sounds really ridiculous, but this will be a new experience for me and people who own RVs are the best way to get insight. There are many anomalies in the RV business and I just want to be sure this is not one of them. Thank you everyone for your help and responses.

This is simple. You already bought a RV on the Ford chassis. Just wait until you take delivery and read your warranty information. What warranty you will get really does not matter. Apparently, you already bought the new RV and you will get what you get.
