Looking to get an RV specific GPS. I have read reviews on Amazon.com and both units seem to have some issues.

I searched the topic on rv.net , but couldn't find anything specific to address my concerns.

Please give me your opinion............. good or bad.

Thanks.

Man oh man - I hope you didn't go with the 7730. I actually bought the 7730 and returned it QUICKLY. Zero battery life. I replaced it with the 7720 - super, love it, would buy it again. Last a long time on the battery, quick to reroute, excellent features.

I bought a Garmin RV760LMT not long ago. I like it pretty well so far. Only 2 minor complaints at this time after limited use: 1) The Tomtom in my car normally shows the current time, travel time to destination, and arrival time. The Garmin doesnโ€™t show the current time (and the clock in the coach is on the radio, down between my knees and my ankles), and I don't think it shows the hours and minutes to destination, only the projected arrival time. Yeah, Iโ€™m wearing a watch, but I miss having it more or less in front of me. 2) The Garmin gives me an audible warning about a mile before each sharp curve in the road ahead. I live in West Virginia. If I am on a secondary road, it is forever warning me, sometimes 3 or 4 curves ahead. I wish I could turn off this feature, at least temporarily, but I havenโ€™t found a way. I grew up in West Virginia and I know how to drive the roads without being caught unexpectedly by a sharp curve. The continual warnings are tiresome and a bit distracting.

Recently received the newly introduced Garmin RV 660LMT. Similar to the 760 but with a 6"screen. Setting up was a breeze. Currently available only from Garmin. Good luck.

Rand used to, and may still, offers their RV GPS as an ipad app. At the time (2 years ago) I downloaded it to give it a test workout to see if I liked it. While it was $50, it seemed like a good way to really get a feel for it, rather than try and return a unit if I didn't like it.
Been too long as to specifics, but in the end, I got the Garmin dezl 760LMT. Lane assist was the big bonus, as far as I was concerned.
The dezl doesn't do a very good job of allowing you to determine what hazards far down the road (low overpass, etc.) it is routing you to avoid, but at least it does try to avoid them! Some of its choices are questionable, but that is true of all GPS's.

I only have had Garmin devices but I can say they have been very good. I have an old device that didn't have enough memory for the map update but I added a SD card and that took care of the problem. The map update installed in the SD card.

I also like Basecamp. It is free from Garmin. I can plan routes. Once I have a route I like I check them in Google Earth. You have Basecamp and Google Earth running. In Basecamp you select view in Google Earth and the routes are imported into Google Earth. There you can review them.

Select the free version of Basecamp you require.

I have been using my Garmin 760LMT for about a year and a half and I really like it! So far, it has been smart enough to keep me off roads I should not be on. I love the large screen and I find it easy to use. I always check my route before I head out to be sure I know where I should be going and I think you should do this no matter what GPS you use.

I would like to open this back up again. I am looking at making a choice on these two as well (RV 7730 LM actually vs RV 760LMT). I really like the Garmin nuvi760 that I have now, but would like lane guidance that the newer models have. I also like the Rand Mcnally online website because it allows you to search within the route the way I like. I read on here about the freezing with the Rand Mcnally and if my math is right, it is loosing the debate on this thread. I just want to see if there are any updates to this question. Thanks for any help.

Actually if you're a Good Sam member there is an excellent trip planner for the Rand McNally units. Just login to your Good Sam account and select Plan A Trip > Trip Planner. It is very intuitive and much easier to use than Base Camp. For those that have a Rand unit they can then load the planned trip via the Dock program.

I was not aware they had added that, it is good to know.

Personally though I would never dream of using it, I am not a fan of the cloud. My trip plans are my business. I will plan them on my computer and transfer them to my device.

Call me paranoid, but I don't trust Good Sam or any other cloud service provider.

I have the Garmin RV 760, very happy with it.

For me the killer feature is the Basecamp software for my PC, (also available for the Mac). It lets me plan my route on the computer, review it, make sure it makes sense, set any waypoints I want along the way. Then I download it to my Garmin RV 760.

I had considered the Rand McNally when it came out but there was no accompanying PC software. That was a showstopper for me.

I purchased a RVND 7710 and it was a piece of junk, constantly froze and after dozens of attempts to fix they sent me a new 7710 and out of the box on first trip it froze.....they sent me a 7720 and it is working great as advertised.

However my old favorite reliable is the Delorme Street Atlas PLUS USA....never fails and have used it for many years with new updates.

I just got my RV760 from the Factory Outlet Store works great. Used the Garmin Express to down load the maps, took about 20min. I like the way my old Garmin StreetPilot 2720 works but after about 5 years got a TomTom, it sucks when trying to input something so I went back to Garmin but I did look at the RVND 7720. If anyone need help on the Rand McNally you will find it here. http://www.irv2.com/forums/f53/rand-mcnally-192905.html
and if you need help on the RV760 Yahoo has a forum also.

Wow ! I'm still using my Street Pilot 2720 and I really. Problem is the new map update files are too big for it. I probably won't be able to update it again.
Then I'll have to decide on a new RV GPS.
My buddy and I attended the RandMcnally workshop for the GoodSams version. Demo was awesome. My buddy bought one and is not happy with it.
I hope to have the Street Pilot hang on for future editions of both the Garmin and RandMcnally. Then we will see.
