slide toppers

Have a 2009 Winnebago 35z having issues with the slide topper giving all appearance of being dry rotten. I have had the front long slide to rip approximately 2 foot along the area closest to the drip edge. In closer examination all of the toppers seem very brittle. Is there a better material than the factory fabric or can I get along without them all together? I need some quick and sound advice. WE are full timers.

As you are in New Bern, go to any marine canvas shop and have them make your slide topper using Sunbrella acrylic fabric.

Sunbrella is virtually indestructable, does not fade or mold and is available in a multitude of colors.

As a plus, it is manufactured exclusively by Glen Raven Mills, a North Carolina firm.

I went to a local Denver awning and tent maker, picked out the fabric and he made them in about a week!

Just got two slide toppers from toughtopawnings.com for our 2002 Itasca Sunrise 32V. They have an instructional video on youtube that shows you how to measure the toppers and how to install. The original toppers delaminated after our last trip to the beach here in Washington, had a wonderful wind/rain storm that finally finished them. The toppers fit perfectly and were not difficult for my neighbor and I to install. cost for two toppers (bedroom and living room) was $302.00

Whatever you do, make sure ALL stitching is double stitched with UV resistant thread...most slide toppers fail at the stitching as the UV destroys the cheap thread they use.....Dennis

Another vote here for Chris at Stone Vos. I just had him make four toppers for me and the material is much heavier than the OEM Carefree material. Also, he double stitches all the seams. His prices are very reasonable and he is just a nice fellow. He can match any color.

I can't suggest to you what material to use, but I have my original slide out toppers from 2004 Winnebago (35-U), and it's stored outside 24/7 365. It's strange to me why your slide out toppers didn't last longer?

Check www.toughtopawnings.com. This company will custom make a replacement fabric for your slide topper.Reasonably priced compared to replacing the entire unit.I am having the same problem and plan to replace all three toppers in the spring.
